What ever you decide you will want to fool with the tubes untill you get "THE" perfect tubes, they really do make a big difference. Tubes for the Starving Student are scarce now because of all the SS amps people are building, but the tubes are cheap when you do find them.

I'm looking at the iBasso D10 Cobra, at $275. I like that it's portable because I need to use it in multiple rooms, and it has usb, optical and coax. Hope it's good enough to drive the K701.

The question is whether it's as good as the $599 HeadRoom Portable Micro Headphone Amplifier.

you could give the new CTH a try, that's what I'm doing with my new k702
