Glad you like them. After less than an hour listening (I had togo on a business trip) this is my very first impression :
Engaging, musical, easy to get addicted to. Very open and airy sound considering they are closed cans.
The fit seems on for my ears but the opening in the pads it's indeed quite small.
A/B tests to come...
My rather small ears fit in but touching the inner side of the pads.
I will have to try for al longer time to confirm any comfort issues.

hi guys
I'm in the market for a set of audiophile closed-back cans. I intend to use them primarily during my travels.
My budget is $500-$1000, I will buy them used. I listen to jazz and rock essentially.
I was leaning towards the Meze 99, a very pair price/SQ ratio from what I have seen, but I also read they are bulky and hard to fold.
I don't know if there were good new releases in 2017...since this thread has been silent recently I wanted to know if I should still consider the Meze99 as the best option for me or if I should look at other more recent options?
Thanks a lot!

I love my Meze 99 Classics. I did not consider them bulky. However they do not fold up for easy storage. I also recommend the Meze 99 NEO, it $50 dollars cheaper than the Classics.

@reddog I also noticed you have the Oppo cans...how do they compare vs Meze? which ones do you like best?
Hmm The Oppo is more balanced and natural sounding, also the Oppo has more resolve and detail. I use the Oppo when I want to do some critical listening, while on the move. I however think the Oppo is not as comfortable to wear. Plus the Oppo does does not look as nice as the Meze 99 Classic and 99 Neo.
