It's probably been mentioned before...Deutsche Grammophon Carlos Kleiber Beethoven Symphonies Nos. 5 & 7; it's in several formats (not all are currently in print) - LP, open reel tape, cassette, CD, SACD, Blu-Ray Audio, digital download in multiple forms. Get it, preferably in the highest resolution format you can play in. Period.

Recent listen to Honeck and Pittsburgh's LvB 5 & 7 blew me away... Thunderous thumping timpani!

I'm also relatively new to Celibidache's 7, older 'Berlin recordings'. Not as slow as I expected.

Careful now, that sounds like a new recording; this thread is about BEST recordings, which must be at least 40 years old.
