I think there was a band called Various Artists back in the 80s. Good luck trying to find that one in the record store.

My band has a side project called Sasquatch Taxidermy. I thought it was pretty funny/clever.

It doesn't realy makes sense, but it sounds good as a name.

I think Eddie Vedder (or another member) has/had an Aunt named Pearl who used to make really good Jam. So, eventually Pearls Jam turned into Pearl Jam.

Probably wrong but I keep thinking of the "lady" in Scarface that pulls the machine gun from under the pillow. This event preceded the incident in the bathtub with the chainsaw. Her character's name was Marta, and they were in a Complex or she had some sort of mental complex.

What do I win?!?!?!?!

I like name Iron and Wine a lot as well. I don't know what it means, but I always sort of got a medivaly feel from it. You know... Iron... Wine... a long time ago...

And you don't like ALO? I am not too familiar with the music but I know one guy who is a huge fan. He also likes Phish a lot too, which I am not down with so maybe it's just different tastes.

As for band names I like a lot, These Arms Are Snakes is my favorite. They are also probably my favorite band as far as music goes as well, so I am a little biased.

Others I like:

Goblin **** (like an actual Goblin and his actual ****)
Portishead
DJ Krush
Xiu Xiu

There used to be a local band called "The Testostertones," which I loved.

A friend of mine used to be in "Slow Goat Riot," up in Seattle.

And I've always wanted to start a punk band called "Middlefinger."

Something just so right about how "The Cramps" was so wrong.

That's the wholesome version they want people to believe. But Pear Jam is actually a reference to "pearl necklace" which is the name of a sex act where a man...umm, unleashes his jam around a woman's neck.

Other band names with sexual references include Love Spit Love, G Love and the Special Sauce, and Petshop Boys.

Best local (Cleveland) band name:

You Would If You Loved Me.

Then there was:

Biblical Proof of UFO's.

Other favorites (pardon if they've been mentioned):

Mastodon
Clutch
Helmet
Hammerhead
The Jesus Lizard
Melvins (you knew Melvin right? that weird nerd who sat in the back of the class who liked Black Sabbath and Black Flag?)

Speaking of.. Black Flag (really, one of the best band names ever)

I personally think SLAYER is one of the most inspired band names of all time.

Buzzoven
Acid Bath
Camper Van Beethoven (silly, but it fits them)
