I have been thinking about going with the K1000 as I find my W2002 uncomfortable after about thirty minutes, although I love the sound of the W2002’s. I have listened to the K1000 and liked them a lot and found them to be comfortable.

So I am now looking for amp recommendations for the K1000. I know the ASL AQ1005 amp is highly recommended, but was looking for other suggestions. I would like to keep the price around $1500, but I am wiling to go up to $2000. I would like to have a remote controlled volume on the amp, but it is not a necessity. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks

The Fisher 400 all-tube receiver (manufactured from 1963-1968) is a perfect match for the K1000s. You can pick these up used for under $200. Even with the cost of replacing aging components and tubes, the final cost should be under $500. This is way under your stated budget of $1500, but you can spend an additional $1000 and not wind up with a better sounding amp. You can use the extra money to upgrade your source or buy more music.

Search the forum for information on the Fisher 400 and you will find a number of informed opinions on this great headphone/amp combination.

Thanks for the reply mkmelt. I have seriously considered the Fisher 400 as it would be well below my budget and I have heard it sounds great, but I didn't know how the Fisher would compare to the more expensive newer amps.

I'm using a pair of Bottlehead's Paramour mono blocks with them and it swings.
You've got to put them together yourself though and you'd still need a preamp.

Both Hirsch and Tuberoller have experience using the K1000 with with the Fisher 400 as well as other amps , see if they can give your their opinion on how some of the newer amps stack up.

I believe in one recent thread a statement was made that the Fisher 400 stomps all over most of the current crop of amps, at least the ones that cost less than $2,500.

I'm very sorry for the duplication, and thanks for your kind words. I'll read more carefully next time.

well, i use Tube City 300BC's with Sophia mesh plates... and a RCA rectifier for now. very good. perfect power rating. sounds incredible. retail = $2500. but i think you can buy direct from Tube City for $2000.... i spoke to the owner/engineer.... nice guy. Winston Ma used this amp in his demo at CES last year... and as i understand it, he's one of those high-profile audiophile dudes, so he only uses the best:

the amp looks awesome... and has some pretty trick "eye" tubes at front that oscillate with the signal.
