Some ppl hate for the sake of hating. Ideally a900 drivers tranplanted with a new cable and different interor dampening. That would be my first thought but you never know until you dig in. Also its a challenge i doubt anyone has tried before

Enclosures have to be carefully matched with drivers to get correct results, so it might be very challenging if you need to calculate and then change interior volume.

By the way, I don't think criticism (of Beats or other things) means "hating".  I think that's a common but unfortunate use of the word.  It's useful for exaggeration purposes in lyrics, sometimes.  But really, criticism should just be called criticism, and then evaluated as to how correct it is.

Person A:  I don't think your new haircut is flattering.
Person B:  You're hatin' on me!
Person A:  Actually, no, not at all.

In my opinion I think someone has to own a pair of headphones for a period of time before they can truly criticize. The term "hating" might not be the best word but it seems to work here. It seems like every topic I see someone mentioning a pair of headphones and then when I check their owned and previously owned section I don't see that pair of headphones. Which leads me to believe they either haven't heard them, tried them out for 10 minutes at a store/meet or just taking other people's words as their own.

And I do understand the challenges of transplanting a driver. I've teamed up with casper to transplant the AD2000 drivers into a pair of takstar 2050. After a bunch of tweaks they were complete.

Sure are generalizing a lot.

You're forgetting that some people might have a large enough community within a small area and therefore hold meets more often, like metro areas here in Asia (although admittedly there are times when I suspect that hype drives impressions), and the meets being relatively convenient to set-up, we go through several tracks at least without necessarily rushing the entire time.

If anything, the problem with that system is altogether different: if you're like the sixth person to seriously try them out that day, that means the headphone could have been worn for at least 45mins x 5 people, so the earpads could be too compressed. I've noticed people listening for shorter periods towards the end of the day, but whether this is the primary factor I can't tell (some might be prepping to leave, some might be hanging out with the other smokers, etc).

In your experience have you been able to audition a pair of headphones and within that short window get an accurate impression of how they are? I'd think everyone walking around and talking would greatly hinder a proper analysis.  And maybe I'm different but I've owned numerous headphones and it took about the 2-3 week of 5-10 hours per day to make an accurate opinion. You also mentioned 2 tracks. Whenever I get a new pair of headphones I always try and test the headphone in classical, jazz, raggae, edm, hip-hop, metal, rock and I'm sure other genres. Easily a 100 track test before I even pass any judgement.

Grado80i I loved the first week and then the sound became fatiguing and nothing I did would get rid of it. I bought a pair of ad700 and senn 555's together and the first 2 weeks I thought the 555's were far superior. As time went on I began to dislike the 555's due to muffled coloration. When I first got the beyer 990's I disliked them due to fatigue. After 3 days of intense listening the fatigue went away.

That's why I arrive at the meets early, and I don't audition each headphone at only one meet. We have more than one every year.

If what you're saying (OP) is, do I have any issues with beats beyond their high price to audio quality ratio, then no, not really. I would definitely consider them as an option, if the sound and build quality was at the same level as other headphones in the price range. I do appreciate that they're available in lots of colors.

I am curious if head-fier could like a pair of Beats if the following held true:

They were $150-200 new
They had a driver from a respected company
They sounded good
Had a decent detachable cable

Depends on the sound signature, but I doubt I would because I have a certain type of sound signature that I prefer that I doubt they would do it exactly,I went thru many pairs of headphones til I found one that I liked.  I can't stand On-ear Cups and I take Durability into play and that would be very important for me, if a headphone crack because of cheap plastic or bad design, I would be very annoyed. The detachable cable part wouldn't be a reason as that just be a extra for the safe of mine. The only way I would  grab them is if they was built like a tank, Didn't look all shiny as i don't want people to snatch a headphone off the top of my head, Sounded exactly like the BeyerDynamic T90's that I have now with some improvements here and there and but cheaper, but of course that will never happen.
