BTW, I believe the phrase is case in point.
Obviously I can't get inside your head and understand why you think that Rock Of Ages is their most famous song....but you are certainly entitled to that and it's not an important argument anyway for me to try to win. I love Rock Of Ages.

That should pretty much end the thread. If the song itself wasn't enough to scare off any potential fans then their appearance on (the original) 90210 should have been. I stayed away from the band for years because of this song only to realize how great their other stuff is down the road.

Can't get on board with these, however. All hold merit- individually or otherwise.

It's obviously arguable whether or not Zepp wrote a better song than Stairway, I'd agree with you that they have better songs.....but I guess what I really meant in this thread is bands that have been unfairly represented by a really famous song which is just really crappy......
I don't know The Traveler
Another Brick In The Wall is definitely Floyd's most famous song to masses, and I agree it's nowhere near their best song
Yes - Roundabout.......I think that's a killer song, you have to admit it's not a bad song
Queen - Bohemian Rhapsody, I happen to think it's their best song, but you may not, but I don't think it unfairly represents how good they can be.....
P.S. I'm not intentionally singling out your post or trying to start an argument. I just found it interesting that Roundabout and Bohemian Rhapsody were deemed poor representations of the band when I think they are amongst the best work the band ever did. I really enjoy our discussions.........hope you don't mind....and I hope I don't come off as an antagonist, I'm not trying to start anything

Their most famous song often hooks you to listen to more of their music. Of course you won't like what their most famous song is as much as there other stuff, your not supposed to. The record company picks which song to release as a single often times. The worst song on the album is often the big single released. Often times, record companies demand 1 song be relatively more mainstream than the rest of the album. I think almost every artist is way better than their single because Singles are much harder to reveal depth musically. That doesn't mean the singles don't sound good, but When I say, this artist is really good, it is never because I listed to a track list of their singles. You buy a Greatest hits because the band is catchy, but you don't really like them, just the songs. You buy every album for artists you like.
Really, this list can be expanded to all artists who have more than 1 hit. Now, I do not by any means mean the pop artists such as britney spears, because her entire alubm consists of songs like her singles, but her music isn't made to be listened to, it is made to be played at a party where everyone is trying to get laid.
So even after I make that point, almost every artist is better than their most popular song if they have had more than one hit because the have made it to the top teir of their trade. Perhaps some are musically genous, and others are just good back ground music for social events.
That is why I find this question to be a little weird.
Good point.Future sound of london grabbed my attention with papua new guinea, but ultimately that was not the direction they wanted to take their music.

His catalog of music both with Utopia and as a solo artist has has explored much deeper and unique music. A true innovator for decades....
I have to agree with Spyro, Todd has done so much better. Actually, I think his latest effort "Arena" is one of his best! He's still going strong at 60.
