The Hifiman HE560 is similar to that of the Sennheiser HD800 in terms of SQ? May I send you a PM to discuss it further as those 2 headphones are on my wishlist-to-buy in a week and would love to hear your thoughts of both with the Taurus. :D

Sorry for the slow response, I am traveling in Ukraine presently and have spotty Internet access.

The HD800 and HE560 are very similar with a neutral sq. The 560 has better bass, the 800 soundstage. Both are great headphones. My 560s are modded though, grill mod, Facus A Pads, Norne Audio Draug 2 balanced and SE cabling. The 800 is a better technical headphone, but for the price you cannot beat a 560 (especially with my mods)! I think I have a buyer from the Nashville Meet, if it falls through I will let you know.

No need to apologize, hope your trip is going great!

I actually got a great deal on a brand new HE560 for $760 USD, was very happy with that, still waiting on it to arrive at my doorstep. Is is difficult to do the grill mod and change the pads? I was just about to ask in the HE560 thread if it would be worth it to invest in a cable.

Sorry for hijacking this thread with HE560 talk, it does relate to my Taurus MKII though. :)

I've never compared them side by side but the GS-X mk2 is a very good amp. There's a reason why the amp is almost never in the FS forums and when it is it does not last long. It should do well with almost any headphone (outside of headphones such as the HE-6) so you can't go wrong with that or the Taurus.

Thank you also for the reply.
I contacted Justin at HeadAmp asking if the third batch of mk2's were sufficient enough to drive the HE-6 being this is one of the HP's I would like to try, and he said yes it is fine due to the increase of amps from the first batch being 30 second being 60 and the third being 100 amps.

Thanks…another HP (560) to add to the list!

I do not want to take up every thread with my posts, but I have just got the Taurus amp (fed by my Devialet 200 ) and a demo pair of HD800, and I can honestly say I have never heard such amazing sound quality from a headphone. It is SUBLIME with soundstage to die for. A demo pair of HE1000 arrive today so I can compare and decide which ones I keep. I think the Taurus is a special special amp.

So you're using the DAC in the devialet?  Feeding it with single ended connection?  I'm really interested in getting a devialet, but I'm not sure if the DAC is going to be on par or better than my Auralic Vega?

Yes music streamed from my NAS using JRiver to the Devialet.
I considered the Vega earlier this year but in the end went for the Devialet as it was a sort of one box solution if you like. DAC  and amp together anyway. I have heard good things about the Vega though so I would have no idea. The only way as usual is to hear it for yourself.

Glad to hear you're enjoying the HD800 on the Taurus, and can't wait to hear your thoughts on the HE1000 with it. Do you notice much treble emphasis on the HD800 with the Taurus? That's the only thing holding me back on buying a HD800, as I find even the Beyerdynamic T1's treble to be sensitive to my ears on the Taurus at times. :)

You aren't taking over, your input is fantastic, I love the HD800 with my Taurus and R2R DAC. Really debating doing the mod from Innerfidelity, The only time the treble bothers me is with extended listening, to less than stellar recordings.

I also can't wait to hear your impressions between the HE-1000/HD-800 with the Taurus.
If you do start a new thread please let us know over here so I don't miss your impressions.
Thanks.

Anyone use the HD800 with a balanced cable on the Taurus? Keen to hear if it's a big improvement

The HE1000 just went to another level in balanced mode
