Funny how it works. On W5000 I had to bend headband to make it fit tighter. Japanese engineering.

Yea. I was going to do an AD2000 vs AD2000X comparison but ended up selling my AD2000 before I even got the chance to compare. All I can really say is that the AD2000X sounds fantastic to my ears. Audio-Technica does a nice job with their heapdhone lineup.

Without having done a direct comparison I could say that the AD2000X may offer a little more bass, a little less mids, and a little more clarity. Perhaps I miss those mids slightly, but the W5000 gives me all the upper mids I could ever want. Am content.

Waw, this is so interesting....

Thanks for the very initial impression ZenErik :)

dsnuts is making me itch to import the ad900x from japan. it sounds like my kind of headphones since i listen to mainly songs with female vocals most of the time with violin/piano instruments being played. i currently use the hd650 (pc>odac>asgard) when i want to listen to laidback music and the a900 (pc>odac>a900. found too bright and warm with asgard). think i'll notice a good change from the a900 specifically? also is anyone driving their ad900x using the ODAC itself?

Dsnuts, i disagree, on some songs, where the bass impact/kick/punch (idk audio terms) is supposed to be strong and transition the song to a chorus or something, it seems like the ad900x's tame down those parts of the music. I am comparing them to studio monitors which are supposed to be accurate. Then again the studio monitors are speakers

^ then again I am using only an amp but not a dac. I am using the ad900x w/ an iPod and fiio amp. I know that when I purchased the musicstreamer for my studio monitors they made a huge difference especially to the bass. Do you guys think that a good DAC would do the same to headphones? From what I have read the iPod touch has a good dac though

Shame that the Ad2000x isn't a huge upgrade over the Ad2000. I guess I'll stick with the Ad2000 since I already own and love them. As for the Ad900 being bass light, they aren't. The pads are stiff and take a while to form a proper seal to your head, once it does the bass opens up immensely.

Well, given as much as I've seen complaints about the too-flat pads and a touch of light bass with the Ad2000, The AD2000x could be a decent upgrade in any of those things bother you.  I've never heard the original either to compare.  However, I've long been tempted to get the AD2000 based on the descriptions of their midrange and very "fast" sound.  Though I've been hesitant about the overly flat pads and maybe poor bass extension (though that could cause the perceived speed).  The seemingly thicker pads and possible slight bass increase is what pushed me over the edge to want to buy it now.

I'm just hoping they don't lose the perceived speed in the AD2000x, that is one of my more desirable traits in a headphone.

The real question  now what happen if you put a AD2000X Pad on a AD2000 ?

How's availability of these headphones in the US and how do you think it will be in a few months, say in July? Reason I'm asking is because I'm going to the US the month in question and I'd love to test listen them and maybe even end up buying a pair to accompany me home.
