So how about the Ad2000 vs the AD2000x?

Zenerik has ordered the AD2000x and it should arrive soon for him from Japan. He also owns the AD2000. I think everyone is patiently waiting for his comparison!

I know I certainly am! I've just been eyeing up the AD900/AD2000 for potential home listening headphones (to complement the portable ESW10's). Just found out about the new editions, and am strongly considering importing the AD2000x from Japan!

The earcup chassis on the AD900 is in fact metal. Based on its weight and texture, I'd guess it's aluminum or magnesium. (The grill is Aluminum.)

To test this claim (which I heard from another headfier,) I put my headphones in a refrigerator to see if the ring on the earcup would hold the cold. It felt exactly like cold metal when removed. The wings did not feel this way (because they are plastic.)

If it does have metallic body, I think it's worth the purchase just for the angled drivers.

Still self debating whether to get the ad900 or ad900x. I would hate to find out that the ad900s w/ bass boost sound like the ad900x. What exactly is the benefit of angled drivers?

Ad900 drivers touch your ears, which I find quite annoying. Angled drivers can elevate this problem, by giving more room for your ears.

The thing is though, I never found much difference in SQ between ad700 and ad900. Justification for purchasing ad900 was difference in build quality for me. But ad700x and ad900x look identical and made of same material(?) Can some one confirm this? If so, ad700x might be a better purchase. Or skip ad900x and get ad1000x.

I can't think of anyone else who has heard the Ad700 and Ad900 and not noticed a pretty big jump in sound quality in mids and lows.

Just received my ad900x, will post impressions later. First impression is comfort is really nice, just enough clamp, driver doesn't touch my ear like the ad900 which bugged the hell out of me Don't have my ad900 anymore but I did own them for 2 years.
 
New headphone cushion is nice and non-irritating like I found the ad900. Build quality seems great and the looks are top notch!

 Here are some crummy looking pictures I took. No comparisons between the AD2000 and AD2000X yet. But honestly, the AD2000X sounds fantastic so far. I will probably let go of the AD2000 either way. Don't need too many headphones around.
 
I do love the sound of A-T headphones, but one of the main reasons I do not stray from A-T full sized cans for home use is comfort. Pretty much all other headphones bother me with the pressure they put on top of my head. Audio-Technica's wing system does not do that.
