I had these sitting around so I opened them up and tried some mods.
 

 
Looks like a rat's nest, and look how thin that wire is... since I got these for $30 I;m not going to worry about that though. Compared to my Grado's these looks really really cheap.
 

 
I don't like felt covering holes so I got rid of it :D Similar to the Grado mods there are 10 holes around the driver covered with felt and I I always felt these had no bass so I vented all of them. I also damped the back of the driver with dynamat. I might have to get some ethernet cable and replace these wires one day...
 

 
And finally I got rid of this giant pad on the back, truly open now. 
 
 
And I have to say these are a lot better now. The bass is there, the sound is more open and less muffled. They still aren't the same as my Grado's but they are definitely better than they were before.

I've been listening to these for most of the day now and I have to say I am very surprised by the difference it made. I think this mod would be somewhat similar on the ad700 and possibly ad900 as well.
