WHAT EXACTLY do you mean by nodded, if its modded what exactly are the mods.

I had both the elegia and the wp900 which I compared extensively.

They both perform at a similar sound quality but the wp900 is more detailed. Very different signatures so take with a grain of salt.

The most important thing is fit, both the elegia and the wp900 have had problems fitting in peoples heads ruining the sound completely. This may be possible to fix with pad rolling but I recommend the stock pads for maximum detail retrieval.

After that is very easy to choose

Soundstage size are very similar, noise isolation is better with elegia by a lot, comfort depends on your head. I prefer wp900 comfort.

If you want a studio like sound, with great separation, clear and clean sound, something thats close to the original recording, and blacker background, it also has more weight in the midrange. Then go ELEGIA

If you want a heavy v shape, that will make your ears rumble (without hurting), and a bright sparkling sound, with a wooden slower decay, great texturing, great detail inspite of the "dirty" bass and also great female vocals. Then go for the wp900

Important: the wp900 midrange is quite a bit weaker than elegias, if you care A LOT about the midrange elegias are better.
Oh great thanks just seen your detailed response now.

The fully modded Elegias just refer to the pads I think. The mod that is most prevalent on the forums. Dekoni sheepskins I think, maybe perforated. And then there is the must do EQing.

I really didnt like that mod at all, it was a bit dark and felt veiled, but I have a friend that prefers that dekoni sound so it comes down to preference, I for one wouldnt sacrifice so much clarity for a little more bass, its not like the stock pads have no bass, actually the bass is better defined stock to my ears because its not boomy.

Using perforated pads for closed backs is another red flag lol.

The wp900 is boomy but the bass and treble clarity are completely there still so I have no problem with that boomyness.

But there are some people than can only fit the elegias correctly with the custom pads, best fit will give the best sound.

Wow you're tried and tested to be fair, I've been stuck in an offline no test capability loop for a while. I did get iems sorted (ie600) and that satisfied me spring and summer (and they cost 600euros).. I got Shure 840a 2 months ago cos they were in a local music shop and 150e. They reviewed remarkably well for heir price range and for 150e are my first wired over ears so dong their bit satisfying... Anyway not to drag you into weeds of closed back comparisons, the DC Aeon Closed X made themselves apparent again in headphones.com end of year giant closed back comparison video getting a good rating from them... However in their Audio Technica section they of course didn't do WP-900!.. for an online researcher yet again snubbed!

Has anyone tried the Audio Technica upgrade cable (HDC113A/1.2) with the WP900? I'm interested in the sound quality, but also the build quality of the plug - the plug from my default cable already has a slightly loose connection in it

I have the balanced version, HDC114A/1.2. I don't use it anymore. Better than the stock cable, but not as good as aftermarket cables that can be less microphonic, more flexible, etc. Search the thread for all sorts of cables people have tried.

I can vouch for this. Its like if there was a "brand name" tax on the price for their aftermarket cables, they are ok but not a good value proposition.

The wp900 is an "specialist" headphone thats better for some genres of music like rock, pop, jazz and electronic is my fav. Also harder to make profit from as its made in japan (VAT).

Meanwhile the DCA aeon x is a generalist headphone that has a "mainstream" approach to sound, very good headphones though.

https://www.headphoneauditions.nl/product/audio-technica-ath-wp900/ this man told me about these a year ago..Just saying, even I haven't bought them yet. And probably cam get them them cheaper elsewhere , but there is a bundle +lotoo dac.
It would be a shame to pay that amount imo, there have been a lot of used mint condition wp900 around $400 total, but I guess thats harder/expensive to get because u seem to be in EU.

I have been using my WP900's for three years now as my pop music/gaming headphones. They have kept me interested and engaged the whole time and I have not felt the need to replace them at all. I love how well designed they are; removing the pads and seeing all the little details in the acoustic design proves this. My stock pads have been wrinkly but not torn for a year now and I figured replacing them would be nice. I now have the yaxi std2 pads and the old pads as backup. I particularly loved how the stock pads sealed and felt. These are stiff out of the box and don't seal as good, though they are molding to my head after wearing for an hour. The oils from my skin and hair should also soften them up. Immediately the sounds stage is wider, less like a two cones over my ears and more like an innertube wrapped around my head. Gotta get used to this but I like it so far. Historically I have cared less about soundstage. I hope it's an improvement for gaming we'll see. The bass is much more open and not as concentrated as before. Possibly cleaner highs. I will see if the long term comfort is the same. I have no problem going back to the stock pads since I like them so much anyways.

I also upgraded from a Questyle CMA400i to a AUNE S9C and the burn in is still processing. Fun times for 2024!

Nice. Soundstage! Save another year for DCA E3?..

I just listed my like-new WP900 on the Classified Forum, with the box, A-T balanced cable, and a carrying case. They're just not getting enough use to justify keeping them when there are other goodies I want to buy.

The only 'hi-fi' headphones I've ever had have been Dt770s (in fact, I'm on my second pair). I have been looking to upgrade for sometime and need a closed back for my current environment. From what I can tell, youtube is flooded with people selling the Noire 2, and the only other headphone under $1000 that suits my budget and aesthetics that I'm moved to upgrade to is the wp900. I have a questyle m15 which, from what I can tell, smooths treble a bit. My thinking is that this would be a great pairing with the Wp900 since its intensity seems to be the major issue people bring up. I haven't noticed anyone referencing this combination. I realize the m15 will have more power than needed, but it is also the dac that is important to me since most cases I'll be using it with phone and not a dap as source.

I have the Questyle M15 and tried the WP900 with it last week. Nice combo, and works great on the low gain setting. I'm selling my WP900 on the Classified forum if you're interested... {Oh, I see you had pm'd me about the sale. Send me another note.}

For pad swapping, I notice that the yaxi sdPad2 says it is compatible with the ATH MSr7 and M50X. Since the yaxi works for WP900, wouldn't pads for MSR7 work for WP900? Dekoni has some for those models but not for WP900, has anyone tried this?

Has anyone heard the Final Audio Sonorous III here, and can perhaps compare with the WP900?
