Audio-Technica ATH-WP900

I got my 900's today. Very nice looking cans. Beautiful even.
Smaller than I expected and very light and comfy.

Initial impressions are lots of treble, lots of bass and very nice mids. I was afraid the vocals would be somewhat recessed and they are, IMO.

So far they are working great with my Violectric V220 and the gain set at -12Db's. Really getting lots of bass, depending on the song. :L3000: 20210421_122131_HDR~3.jpg

Has anyone here heard the ad2000x, Im wanting to get that one as a can for exclusively female vocals, If wp900 vocals were more front it would be my perfect can

You might want to look out for the original non x AD2000, its a little bit mid centric with upfront lovely female vocals. The x variant is more neutral.

As noted, many of us think they get better with use and upgraded cables...

I made myself a 2.5mm cable using Mogami quad wire and Moon A2DC/2.5mm connectors for use with my A&K DAPs as well as with a 2.5mm > XLR adapter in my desktop amps. I don't have any Pentaconn devices so it's a big help for me.

...would appreciate a good source for upgraded cables?
I would get a silver/copper hybrid. You don't want anything too bright, but instead want to add a big more body to the mids. I can recommend the Forza Noir Hybrid or Claire Hybrid. Both fairly priced and very durable.

There are several posts earlier in the thread. You have to be careful about getting the A2DC connectors that will fit properly in these cans. My recommendation has been to get the cables from Impact Audio Cables, but he's in the USA. There have been a couple of UK and Euro sources noted earlier.

I sacrificed a 2.5mm balanced Effect Audio IEM cable to pair with my WP900, using the Moon A2DC connectors. It's a wonderful quality of life upgrade and means I can enjoy it with my AK daps.

The Moon Audio connectors do fit the WP900. But I'm sending the cable back for some black heat shrink to be applied over the silver, so they match the other connectors and the headphones better.

That cable is an awesome match for the cups!

Here's the other photo, after the heat shrink was applied. I think it will be difficult to get a paracord color that truly matches the wood cups, and it would be more microphonic for portable use.

That heatshrinking looks really neat! I'm going to need to find some with a subtle red/blue scheme on it for ease of L/R identification as the marking on the Moon A2DC connectors are very subtle.

He uses heatshrink with different colored writing on each connector. The right has red, the left has gold. It's even more obvious in person than in the photo.
