There are many threads concerning those two headphones in particular. Please search the threads.

To answer your question:

M50s have a small soundstage. The instruments and vocals are close. The instruments and vocals are a bit blended together. The whole sound in general is warm and has good low end response. Great with hip hop, rap, rock, etc.

A700s have a large soundstage and are also physically larger headphones in exchange. It is a brighter headphone but the bass response is also a bit emphasized. The treble may get a bit hot with hip hop's fake cymbal sounds. Instruments are much better separated. Has a more "surround sound" effect. Wonderful with classical, pop, jazz, chamber music, etc.

Both are good all-rounders, just wonderful at certain things.

OP do you mean ATH 700 Pro? cause ATH A700 and 700 Pro are two different cans.
700 pro is better looking, but m50 is better sounding. i also read that 700 pro has quality issue.
