Audio Technica ATH-CK10

i was waiting until he said how awesome they were.  i knew it couldn't end at the light and tinny sounding.  as for full cans, i was in the same boat as you.  i had the ad700's and liked them, but when my 15 dollar skullcandy earbuds had better bass and almost as good treble, lack of details howeever, i decided to venture into the iem world.  found out about the re-zero's and im just amazed at their clarity sound.  the only bad thing about iems, is that they can hurt your ear canals after a while.  thats where i wish i still had the full sized cans, but the sound has no match for them.

It's all about preference. Sometimes I EQ phones' heavily, sometimes not at all. But if it sounds good to you, what does it matter if it's "right"? "Right" is what sounds best to you. So don't fret and enjoy your music.

oh don't worry, i've been enjoying my music for a long time.  but i often hear people say "eq out the problems" so i figured i'd see what they sounded like without their "problems" (normally i wouldn't care, but i'm in the experimenting mood tonight)

i do have sony hybrids as well as shure olives and they still hurt...

No...... I mean if IEM's hurt you, and Headphones are too big for you, get earphones that don't enter your ear.... Look up Yuin OK1 for example..... or maybe start with something cheap like Sony E931 and see if you like it or not.

With a high resolution source the CK10 is already ruler-flat isn't it?  Except for the 10.5kHz treble spike.  To my ears this graph seems pretty correct http://sonove.angry.jp/audio_technica_ATH_CK10/FR_CK10_CK100_CK90PRO.gif

The CK10 is the first IEM I hardly ever touch the eq, it is really something for me, I usually love playing with the eq, not with ck10.

Agree about the eq thing, with the ck10's I never touch the thing. With my MTPC's I at least messed with it a bit but the ck10's just seem ideal as they are.

I think that depends on the player. For some I had to EQ the treble down a bit since they do have that spike and with bad synergy it could  be pretty bad.

Although regarding EQ as long as it sounds good to you then that is the right way.

Received my CK10 from reshelling recently. It was done by hearing aid specialist here in Moscow, price is ~$100

Cable is the same, and i don't see why would anybody want to change it :) It's better then westone cable anyway.

It's a canal-type customs - master was strongly against standard full customs, since audiotechnica drivers are very small and easily fit into ear canals.
I don't mind, the seal is great, and it takes a second to put these in or out.

Sound changed quite noticeably, though their airy and detailed signature is still here. But now they have more bass, sibilance is gone and treble tamed a bit. Soundstage  became wider as well, isolation is also better obviously, i can really listen to music only in the subway.
