How does the AD2000 perform with rock?

It is a smooth, laid-back, dark and bassy sound that may make the AD2000 sound bright, screechy and thin in comparison. Although the converse may also be the case, with the HD650 sounding veiled, muffled and muddy in comparison.

My experience so far indicates that the source, amp and cables affect the sound, sometimes considerably. If some experimentation doesn't yield satisfactory results, it might make sense to sell the AD2000.

I`ll definitely keep the AD2000, it`s just to nice a headphone.

I`m planning to give it a second (longer) try after a longer burn-in period.
Currently I prefer the HD650, but somehow I feel that I`ll appreciate having an alternative in the nearer future.
I wouldn`t kow of a better open headphone next to the Senn than the AD2000.
The AKG701 is not for me.

Not sure if this is directed to me.

Like I said earlier, I have the Rudistor RP5.1, and I don`t feel like needing another amp.
The Rudi has an adjustable gain control, making it perfect for any headphone.

No problems with the AD2000, or the HD650.

As long as you like the general sound, there`s no problem with rock music at all.
Fast, forward, great and detailled bass.

That`s at least my (so far short) experience.

Rudistor RP5.1 is capable to drive low impedance well but IMO sound signature is geared to brighten up sennheiser phones.

I am getting lot of aggression with collapsed soundstage with my A900LTD's if paired with aggressive source. IMO you should pair it with flat dry source or G&W AT-F100 coz they are specially geared for AT cans.

It's not a big deal to try. You can buy it cheaper at link below.

Interesting point manchau, thanks for the advice.

Not so sure about the sound signature of the rp5.1 though.
It has great synergy with the Senn, but then again others (like Patu) have very good experiences with the SA5000 (Sony) and AT`s W5000, so I`m not that pessimistic.
After all, I had asked in this forum for an amp esp. for the AD2000, and not few directed me to Rudistor.

I`m not planning to buy another amp now.
Should the AD2000 don`t match with the Rudi, then I`ll rather sell the AD2000.

However by simple bass amount the K701 has enough for my taste, how does the AD2000 compare here?
Elephas, could you try the AD2000 with the Aria? If i'll get the AD2000 i'll probably use it with the headfive..

In my system, the AD2000 has more bass quantity and impact than the K701. This is with either the AT-HA5000, Lehmann BCL or Dared MP-5 amplifiers. The Dared MP-5 produces the heaviest bass that is also muddiest. The AD2000's bass is more detailed and has slightly more texture than the K701's. Using the AT-HA5000, the AD2000 sounds best while the K701's bass is particularly anemic and lacking in impact. With the Dared, the K701's bass becomes much better.

With rock and pop music, the AD2000's forwardness, airyness and better bass impact can make it more engaging than the K701. In this regard it is more similar to the Grado RS-1 and less like the K701. There is a greater sense of energy and excitement compared to the K701's more sedate presentation. Does this mean the AD2000 is more colored? I think so, because I think the K701 is the most neutral-sounding headphone I've heard. To me, the AD2000's coloration is a good thing, and makes it sound very good with many types of music. It does less well with classical music, which is where I think the K701 excels. I also like the K701's sound very much and consider both the K701 and AD2000 favorites. They are complementary headphones.

I used to own a Meier Corda HA-1 MkII. I thought the AD2000 sounded OK with it. The Corda Aria does better, and is a decent pairing with the AD2000. I listened to the AD2000 with a Corda Aria and AT-HA20 at a local shop last week, and felt the Corda Aria performed better overall. The AT-HA20 seemed to produce slightly better tonality while being less impressive in most other areas. At their respective prices, both amps seem like decent choices to pair with the AD2000.

Yes, the W5000 is within reach if you're considering the AD2000.

The W5000 is more sensitive to amplification than the AD2000. I haven't had too many bad experiences trying different amps with the AD2000, but have had some 'ugh, this isn't so good' experiences with the W5000.

I never did.

Don`t like closed cans.
But that`s just me.

And the AD2000 is a great open one.
(even if I currently like the HD650 better)
