Audio-gd NFB-28

Just because the HA-1 is relatively brighter doesn't mean the NFB-28 can't still be bright.  :p

It's not super bright by any means, but it's pretty lively, which is great if you're into that.  But paired with a Beyer, it might be too much, that's all.

I suppose so. I mostly just compared mine to the HA-1 and something other stacks (Magni/Modi, O2/ODAC) in forming my opinions.

All three of those are often called either bright or analytical...

Yeah I know. That's why I don't really consider the 28 as on the brighter end of the spectrum.

Though in honesty I have not tried the T1 with my NFB28 quite yet. I did audition them with my old C421 + ODAC once and found them to be a bit too bright for my tastes. Much preferred the DT880 and the HE400i.

As an owner of a nfb-29, paired successfully with a T90, I would define this Sabre dac as a neutral one.

If you're looking for something more on the warm side of a SS dac/amp, I'd search some Burr Brown or Wolfson units.

Thanks everybody
I just want a warmer dac/amp than my modi/vali. A thicker note in mid and a little more bass impact.

There is also a chance that I will go with dac19. But, as I mainly listen to rock/metal, I'm concerned that dac19 wouldn't be fast enough.

Is the Compass going to be Audio GD's entry-level product now?

No, the NFB-11 it seems.  When's the last time they sold the Compass?  Been a while!

Oh... I just remember when Mad Lust Envy bought one, least expensive option at the time with a DAC that also had the option of purely working as an amp too.

What will replace the NFB 10.33? Is the 11 comparably priced?

The NFB-11 is the Sabre version of the NFB-15 and the NFB-28 is the Sabre version of the NFB-10.33.

You might try the NFB-15 or NFB-10.33 before they're discontinued.

Thank you for your help. Have you listened to modi/vali and nfb28 side by side?
I think that I need to read some of your reviews to catch your mental frame of bright. :D

Another question came to my mind.
Have you played with different digital filter on the H model? digital filters like NOS, Slow roll off, and Fast roll off.

Thank you in advance.

Along with my previous concerns

, I asked Kingwa some of those questions. And here are his kind replies:

Dear Sir,
The digital filter change just make the sound slight different, it can't had much different.
For change the sound flavor, you can change the power cable of the unit, this is make the sound a bit different.
If you like the warmer sound, the Monster (USA) power cable had suite, and not expensive.

I am advice you buy one printer power cable connect the NFB28, listen few weeks, then consider if want warmer sound, and how much warm you want.

I'm interested if anyone has tried that option and used another power cable.

I personally like the Volex shielded and Quail unshielded 14awg power cords.  Neither will break the bank at ~$10-15 each and are flexible enough to use on nearly all gear.

I use Pangea ac14se cables on all my gear. Pretty cheap for the quality of build. More than enough for most gear. A little stiff though. Not as bad as my ps audio lab cable (just silly)
