Audio-GD NFB-2 & NFB-3 Delivery & Impression Thread

 Are you saying they sound similar?

On Windows 7, my DAC19DF is a "USB DAC", the NFB-3 is a "TE7022".
I had many BSODs using USB connections, especially in playing 24/96 files. I have given up USB connections and just use SPDIF and optical via a Juli@ soundcard.
After listening to both the DAC19DF and the NFB-3, I still can't articulate the difference between them besides the point that the NFB-3 plays 24/192.

I had a hard time with that USB ASIO driver as well.  I still can't get it working right so I just use ASIO4ALL.  Works great at the very least.

Anyone have a chance to compare the NFB-2 & NFB-3 with a tube/hd650 setup? I am reading good things on the NFB-3 with tubes and hd650's but I would not mind paying a little bit extra for the NFB-2 if it's worth it.

Expected my NFB-3 to ship by mid last week, but haven't heard anything from them.  The delivery page doesn't show any updates since 2010-12-14.  Haven't received any replies to my queries on shipping either.  I know they must be busy but it would be nice to get an update.

Update:  the website has now been updated with shipments up to 2010-12-17.  Nothing for me though...  :frowning2:

Thanks, nothing for me. In all fairness they said no later than 12/18/10. But that's not the first time my order was delayed.

Good luck to us all.

Update,  If you don'd get a reply in 24 hours send a E-mail to this address   king-wa@hotmail.com

Can anyone comment on the sonic differences between the NFB-3 and NFB-12.  I am thinking of switching my order the the NFB-3 as I will just be using it as a DAC.  However, in many ways they seem to be very similiar products.

Thanks,
Robert

I just received my NFB-2 yesterday and I have it hooked up as follows:

PC:Omega HT Claro Optical Out --> Audio-gd Optical in --> RCA out --> WA6SE RCA In -->D7000

Analog: TT --> RSA F117 Nighthawk --> WA6SE -->D7000

Anyway, I was using a DAC Wow with Optical in from same sound card and I can tell a diference immediately with only a couple hours on it. Definitely more detail in all my music. The Dac Wow is also a Wolfson DAC and both sound musical to me. I love the Wolfson sound signature, but the NFB-2 has so much more reolving power and dynamics than the Dac Wow did. I am very happy, and impressed with the sound. I do like the bump that ACSS gives to the sound. Almost like a loundness switch in consumer stuff. You can hear the EQ change.

I was curious about the 25/96 vs the 24/192 issue. I did not see anything on here about this yet. I ordered the 24/96 version becasue the site lists the jitter of the input as being 50ps instead of 200ps at 192Khz becasue of different receiver chip but on 12/14 it looks like the site was updated where that say they replaced the 24/192 chip to one with 50ps jitter. I am wondering if they are still shipping two flavors (96 and 192 ) or since the delay is the same on both now 50ps did they just start shipping all 192khz versions now?

My Claro with optical is capable of 24/192 but I did not want to introduce jitter in the chain as much as I coule avoid it so I went with 2496. Does anyone know what is going on?

one review and one award for NFB 2

www.digitalaudioreview.net.au

One question ; in the review there is nothing about soundstage. Is there someone who listen symphonic music whith nfb2 ? I like a wide orchestra. And what about rhythm, the reviewer says dynamic is good but not as good as Eastern Electric dac. Rhythm pulsation and attack are important for me.

Thanks.

Please forgive my mystakes in your language, i am french.

Yep, they've recently upgraded the 192khz SPDIF interface from CS8416 to WM8805.

The NFB-3 is a dedicated dac, NFB-12 is a dac and headphone amp combo. I have audio-gd gear with similar price tier as what you are asking, $480 dac19mk3, $225 sparrow and $280 compass, and there is quite some difference between the dedicated dac dac19 and the dac/amp combos sparrow/compass.

But having dac and amp share the same chassis does reduce cost, good if you are also looking for a headphone amp. If you just want a dac, definitely NFB-3, especially since it is at a $300 promo price right now.

"Yep, they've recently upgraded the 192khz SPDIF interface from CS8416 to WM8805. "

I am wishing I knew this as I ordered the 96Khz version becasue of that issue with the 192Khz. Do you know if the WM8805 is a plugin module that can be inserted into mine with the 96Khz SPDIF interface?

WM8805 is a surface-mount reclocking transceiver.  It's the multi-input version of the WM8804 reclocking transceiver used in the Firestone Bravo and Neko DAC.
They're supposed to be awesome.

Hi everyone

This is my first post, I take the chance to present myself.

I've just purchased a NFB-3 because DAC-19 DSP is finally out of stock (well, PCM1704UK is). It have been a hard decision to make, give up on R2R to purchase a less accurate sigma-delta chip, but I hope that this gear represents a step forward over my Auzentech X-FI Prelude. Can someone tell what level achieves this DAC? compared to other gears like: HRT Music Streamer II+, Music Hall 25.3, Arcam rDAC, NuForce HDP,... By it's design and their components I would say that NFB-3 can beat all these contenders, but it's only a guess. The only DAC with something different is Music Hall; wich has a similar concept as Eastern Electric Minimax DAC.
