Audeze Penrose X and Penrose

Hello everyone,

been reading the thread here and this is my first time posting.

I bought the Cloud Orbit S for my PS5 and couldn’t get it to work because the usb wire would pull power from the console to charge the battery in the headset causing a ground loop issue which introduced a loud hum through the microphone. I did enjoy the sound of the planar magnets though.

Does this happen on the Penrose with PS5?
I’m also wondering what the difference the lithium polymer battery has in terms of lifespan as I’ve mostly known about lithium ion batteries.

Edit: just ordered the Penrose from Audeze website and I’m surprised they only offered Royal Mail 24 or 48 for a £300 value headset.

Thank you for your time.
Ken

I’d have to test again but I seem to recall always getting the mic hum when using a powered headset that’s plugged in to a power source. Mobius/Penrose plugged in to PS5 via USB, Penrose plugged in to the wall, etc. I never really have found a way to get around the issue so I try not to be charging when I’m in a chat.

This is the mic that came with the Penrose yeah? The mesh is supposed to face your mouth and the logo away. Have you tried to reshape the metal arm to achieve this?
Yeah. At best I get it to turn halfway by maneuvering the arm. Its fully facing the wrong way and would need twisting.

Yes that what I’m aware of. If it’s a powered headset like the Orbit S then the hum is because of a grounding issue as the consoles do not have an Earth.

then I guess it’s fine running wireless off the battery then. Thanks for the response.

How long ago it was? Is there a chance they truly even think about it? I remember Audeze being quite active in this topic a while ago and taking under consideration things people suggest/say. Wonder if this is still a thing...
sad to say if a company goes silent its just one thing they cant solve the problem and ignores it, its been like that since the dawn of time

Yeah, this is truly disappointing if this is the case. I really liked that previously (before the Penroses dropped and shortly after) they've been quite active here and there, answering people's questions, taking stuff under consideration, etc.
I really hoped this will stay like that, especially lots of us trusted them enough to buy their product (which was not cheap) pre-ordering it quite blindly and hoping for the best...
I really keep my hopes up that them being silent might be a temporary hiccup due to workload / covid and one day, they will go back to the superb form of communication with their users.
If not, I'll be quite disappointed, especially considering that lots of users face quite some issues with their product and make a great suggestions.

It's much easier to loose people's trust than to gain it. Especially once the trust is lost somewhere in the process. Hope they remember that and take under consideration.

New firmware 0.1.6 is released!

But I could not find any changelogs.
Lol, they have just roll it back. But I saved AudezePenroseFW.xml:
Code:
<!DOCTYPE Penrose_FW>
<data
version="0.1.6"
persistent="https://audeze-penrose.s3.amazonaws.com/FW_V_0_1_6/AmberX.persist.cfs.bin"
params="https://audeze-penrose.s3.amazonaws.com/FW_V_0_1_6/AmberX.params.cfs.bin"
firmware="https://audeze-penrose.s3.amazonaws.com/FW_V_0_1_6/av3595_baker_app_fwb1.cfs.bin"
data="https://audeze-penrose.s3.amazonaws.com/FW_V_0_1_6/AmberX.data.cfs.bin"
/>
You can install it manually by playing with hosts file (pretenting a https://audeze-penrose.s3.amazonaws.com/AudezePenroseFW.xml) and hosting AudezePenroseFW.xml by yourself, but I guess Audeze had reasons to roll it back and personally DO NOT recommend to do it. I installed it before they took it down, but didn't notice any changes in behavior.

Ha! Now that was quick. You would think if the build was from march 12th they would have tested it thoroughly before releasing but maybe there was a last minute bug they found. I hope this includes the bluetooth control. Were you able to dive into the actual firmware and see if there were any changes?

Maybe they released the 0.1.5 version named 0.1.6 by mistake and need to correct?? Who know lol I just hope it comes out again today and with the changelogs.

It's just binaries, there are no config files or kinda to look at. The binaries are indeed different, but I cannot say what exactly they changed or added.

No, I check their Amazon S3 bucket regularly. They created a new dir and replaced AudezePenroseFW.xml file (Audeze HQ app just fetches this link https://audeze-penrose.s3.amazonaws.com/AudezePenroseFW.xml).
