Audeze Mobius review / impressions

I've tried it now again and I could definitely hear extremely distorted sound, but only when it was plugged via AUX into the headphone jack on the front of my PC, with windows and spotify turned up to 100 volume. When I turned the windows volume down to like 70-80 and used the slider on the side of the headset to make it louder it was possible to reach even a higher volume than before which was just unbearably loud, but without sounding distorted.

On any "normal" volume level, like I always use for music, movies and gaming nothing sounded distorted.

I just got the Audeze Mobius, but I did not now that you should not plug them into an dac/amp and was stupid enough to plug them into my Sennheiser GSX 1000 via aux.

The headset was way too quiet so I turned the GSX to 100 volume (normally set to around 20-40 for my Fidelio X2) and also had to use the volume slider on the headset itself. A few minutes later I just upped the volume on the headset itself a lot more and turned the GSX volume down to around 40. I listened to music through the GSX with the Mobius for 15 minutes, while switching to my old headphones (also then plugged into the GSX) from song to song, to see which headphones I like more. The GSX itself was set to HD Stereo.

Now I'm wondering, how can I make sure that I did not damage the headset by doing that? Or is the GSX 1000 not powerful enough to damage them?

Also I am currently using them via the USB cable, but I am also wondering if it could cause loss of quality if I plug them into my ac powered Anker usb hub? The cable that came with it is way too short to plug it directly into the usb output of my mobo. Is there any recommendation for a longer usb c to usb c/a cable?
You should be okay. This was a warning we put because we did not want users using them with big amplifiers.

This is most likely from clipping in electronics. The analog goes through a A/D to DSP and then to DAC and then to the speakers.

How important are the head size parameters for the sound image, 3D and quality?

Going to try some Fortnite with different profiles now, will test "warm" to begin with :)

Flat and default would be the other two to try. You'll probably be happiest with flat.

All the other modes are just gimmicks.

Thanks. Been playing some with the warm setting and it's much better, much less overkill sounds coming from vehicles and such 👍 Quite fond of the headset now, only minus is they require wiring to utilize the 3D and surround sound 😕
The new model could be interesting, but since it lacks these features altogether I will probably stick with this one. The directional sound really helps in games like Fortnite, was playing through speakers yesterday because we had some guests playing on Xbox and the difference is tremendous (Razer Nommo 2.1 system).

That would require us to put a Wifi Client in the headset. Wifi chipsets are typically more power hungry. But one of our customers uses a virtual USB client for a very different use case with Mobius. The studio is on one side and the machine room with all the servers are on the other side of a very busy roadway. They have Fiber running across under the road. They use KVM over USB to route the machines to the rooms on the other side where they stations with Mobius units to QC the 5.1 video for IMF Deliverables.

Is it normal that you can sometimes hear popping or crackling in the computer voice when you change the EQ preset, for example when she says "Music" or "Flat"?
The Voice presets were actually recorded and converted to really low bit-rate compressed files (8 bit, 6 Khz sampling) to fit it inside the chip. Don't use it for quality reference.

Warm is perhaps the most optimized for 3D audio reproduction.
