Audeze Mobius review / impressions

This EQ is on top of Neutral settings on Mobius ?
UPDATED VERSION HERE

RTings measurements I believe were for the Default preset, at least their Test Settings state such, and likely measured pre v5 firmware. I think though v5 Flat is more similar to pre-v5 Default? If so then its for Flat, if not then Default. I think 3D mode was off as well for the measurements, though this EQ works either way

EDIT:
For expanded use of a Harman target curve EQ for the Mobius, I'm adding generated Parametric EQ and Fixed Band (standard 10 levers) versions, as well as the AutoEQ command line I used to generate it. Should be accurate, only way to get it more accurate is for oratory1990 to measure it in Hi Res mode on Flat v5. If your just after the EQ for EqualizerAPO, use the Graphical EQ or Convolution options. Convolution & Parametric is usable in Roon, Parametric in USB Audio Player (Android) and more, while Fixed Band is your more generic equalizer.

Only Parametric/Fixed Band need a preamp, Graphical and Convolution have it baked in.

Optional brilliance/sparkle/air reduction, add onto above
Filter: ON PK Fc 10000 Hz Gain 0.9 dB Q 2
Filter: ON HSC 15 dB Fc 10500 Hz Gain -2 dB

Optional bass boost, add onto above
Filter: ON LSC 10 dB Fc 300 Hz Gain 1 dB

Optional diffuse-field addon, add this in EAPO to give the Mobius more of a diffuse-field response in the high treble, doesn't effect anything else. Could theoretically help spatial awareness and 3D mode. Definitely brighter with this, but also more 'wide' like theres a center channel, its hard to quantify. Worth testing AB.

Note, this is only 1/3rd of a full diffuse field correction. Can apply it multiple times or 3x each value to get the full effect. Remove the first 3 entries (4700-5850) to keep only the high-treble diffuse response for a more transparent version.
Optional LFE/Sub high pass filter for DTS-HD/Dolby TrueHD, most home theater amplifiers do this. Sometimes mixing rooms have their subwoofers high-passed and dont notice high-frequency noise/garbage they leave in the LFE channel. The Dark Knight is a good example of this. This removes it all, leaving only bass in the LFE and only on 7.1 tracks. Add onto above, make sure its the last addon
Channel: SUB
Filter: ON LPQ Fc 140 Hz Q 1.7

EDIT:
Found that installing EqualizerAPO as a LFX/GFX on Windows 10 caused distortion, notably around 7900Hz, installing as an SFX/EFX fixed it, sounds clean. Setting is in Troubleshooting options in the Configurator. Likely something internal with where the APO is placed in the Windows Audio stack, as SFX/MFX/EFX are full replacements for Vista-era LFX/GFX. Also, post-mix uses the EFX mode, which will disable all APO's but Equalizer APO. Pre-mix is broken for me so I just unticked it in the Configurator to only have the post-mix EFX APO installed.

EDIT:
I am content. Flat + EQ + all addons (incl semi diffuse-field), 3D Auto 7.1 with Room Reflections at 30, head settings inputted, watching Avatar and Godzilla, surreal. Best headphone cinema experience I've ever had, beats any prior surround solution or headphone. Halo 1 Anniversary on PC sounds amazing, crisp and clear with a great soundfield. Bannerlord as well, locality is spot on.

Note, when doing cross-comparison, replace your whole config.txt for volume matching with
Channel: ALL
Stage: post-mix
Preamp: -6 dB

EDIT:
Updated all profiles one last time, uses an altered base frequency response tuned to the F5 firmware update, leaving all profiles more accurate in terms of tuning the Mobius towards the Harman curve. Warm/Warmer is also more custom tuned now, with a slight restoration of 80-300KHz alongside tuning at 1.5KHz and 3.5KHz.

Are the gel pads deeper or more shallow than the original pads? With OG pads, the fabric covering the left driver I've noticed isnt atm very tense, I think its lost a bit of its tension. Might be due to my ear pushing against it, its hard to tell. Had a similar problem with the HD650. Right ear is still generally 'tense' in terms of the fabric.

I think he wants the option. Don't we all want a lightweight closed back Audeze that can run passive or on active BT? I do.
That would probably be my perfect headphone

It'd be great, but I care more about PC and gaming versatility with the awesome sound signatures it comes with for music it's by far the best gaming headset out there for the price; Some additions to the software, some tweaks to the hardware/firmware flashing(&recovery) and headset programming so we can program and take with our own EQ. Small things that allow us to dial in the headset perfect for each user beyond our head settings. For a first generation headset they did great, I just hope they don't churn out a V2 without a lot of added details and consideration on the build quality and people who wear headsets around their neck or off one ear due to work demands. I'd pay extra for metal parts on the yoke, easily replaceable battery, that makes it a buy it for life.

Gelpads are the same depth but do not lose form like the memory foam they wont compress as much or go flat. I've had them for a year i think now and they are the same shape as when I bought them and the memory foam look like squished and angled after only a few months of use for me. They just gotta ditch the foam and make the gelpads the standard even if it costs extra 10-15 dollars.

Im not really a gamer but wondering these would be a decent portable option for black/death metal?

Yup. I can attest to that. Both in wired and wireless, Metal is awesome for these cans along with my 3D gaming

the headset is great for any genre of music, anything I've thrown at it, even live acoustic recorded in a church sounded amazing. I've not found a movie it couldn't take (tho I typically default to 5.1 external speakers) and games just depend on what you're playing for you to set audio. Is it a portable headset tho... maybe? it's not foldable like the LCD1, it's flexible but I don't think the build quality is perfectly suited for daily portable use, even tho they had this in mind, I don't think they nailed it at all, but I could be totally wrong and others should chime in on this. I'd only expect 1 year+ of life outta the headset if you're abusing it (stretching wide and lifting your headset by the cups is just 1 way) as mine didn't last more than that but I don't travel more than 500 miles a year and took great care with them I never bent or abused, never worn around the neck, always stored properly after use. I personally don't take cans I rely on daily for portable music but around the house the Mobius has been great.

Is there any chance Aptx HD support can be added? All these codecs are free to my knowledge so was it just a time thing that caused it not to be added?

May 26, 2020 at 1:13 AM Post #4,815 of 5,780
Why do you need that codec? Android supports LDAC now which is better than AptX (HD) and on iOs there is only AAC...
Those codecs aren´t free also
I don´t see any reason for AptX HD now when you support LDAC. There may be a few transmitters that support AptX but no LDAC, but those are very few (old Android devices and I think Windows 10 supports AptX (no HD at the moment).
