I'm very happy with the new driver update! This feels really light.. Even lighter than my old HE-400 or the EL-8! more comfy too. And I've heard this is one of the heaviest headphones around. The sound.. wow.. Not to exaggerate much but really. Now that I've heard the Xs I'm now curious about the 3s!

I have the LCD-X and LCD-3. X is my preferred an my go to HP.

Every once and a while I give the 3 a blast and even tho the 3 is close to the X I hear more magic in the X. If I was going to guess I would say the X has a more holographic effect. Just some tracks hit utter magic on the X. Those tracks that just stop you in your tracks and make you listen. I kinda don't get that with the 3. Nice yes. Magical not as much as the X.

Would the LCD-X scale much going from a Schiit Bifrost MB/Lyr 2 combo to something like Auralic vega/Taurus mkii Combo?  Would it even be worth going higher up the schiit line to the Mjolnir 2/gungnir combo?

I'm still being bit by the upgraditis bug, and wondering what I'm leaving on the table with the Bifrost MB/ Lyr 2 combo.

I can't

I can't speak to the Taurus but when I upgraded to the X I went with the Vega and never looked back.  The Vega is a great piece.

Agreed. I'm using a Vega.

Vega > Woo WA22 > LCD-X or 3
Vega > Oppo HA-1 > LCD-X or 3

I absolutely love the Vega with the LCD-X.

How about the differences with the amp?

Sure they make a difference and the tube amp sounds the best. However the biggest gain in sound quality for me was the DAC.

Well it was after much thought, and help from you all, that I have just purchased the LCD-X from Audeze through their trade-in program!!!!!! It was between the LCD-X and the HD800S's. The MrSpeakers Alpha Dogs's, that I recently sold, were the "gateway planar magnetic experience" that convinced me that the planar sound is what I'm after. I just recieved my Grado GS2000e's (XLR terminated) too as I also like a uber detailed sound with a musical twist as well. I am confident that the two will compliment eachother well as I will have a bright and dark reference sound for whatever mood I'm in. Too bad my Chord Mojo is out in a warranty repair and my LIquid Carbon is a ways off too. I will have to make do with my other gear in the mean time. I am totally ecstatic that I will finally be owning my dream headphones!!! Can anyone tell me how different they will sound compared to the AD's?

I was also fan of Grado (I had Alessandro) before I got to Audeze. Mm Yes Audeze is darker but it is more natural alive, nice purity behind,  coherent vocals intruments, also great guitars (as Grados is well known) and overall it is adult headphone I am sure you will be very happy. And I think it will also bested your Andromeda.

As regards system. I wrote it in past, my opinion is that Audeze natural characteristic is like a little feel of tubes I am not sure how better I can describe it so I always much prefered them with quality great neutral energetic DAC with quality solid state amp which will support it even more (but as we discus here in past everyone have a little different opinion/experiences on amps here)..

Definitely worth using the balanced cable.  When I got Schiit stack with balanced outs and the Audeze stock balanced cable for the LCD-X I heard one of the more notable differences in SQ that I've gotten so far.

I can't fully concur. With LCD-X, I definitely prefer SE outputs over balanced from my Taurus II (Audeze original cables). Sound more dynamic, punchier, better transients. May depend on the output impedance of an amp, LCD-X being a 22 Ohm headphone. Taurus has cca cca 5 Ohm output impedance on balanced outputs which might not be sufficiently low for LCD-X. SE outputs are cca 1 Ohm and the ratio should be, as far as know,1:10 at least to ensure good control of the amp over the headphones. I am not an expert, I'd appreciate further comments.

You'll like the Mojo>LC>X combo. That's what I run and I love it.

I'm happy to hear that! I am really sibilance sensitive. Can tell me if there is any of an unnaturally heightened treble presence or sibilance with the aforementioned set-up? I'm only asking because I found the LCD-XC to have some nasty treble peaks (but I was using the PeachTree Dac-iTX as a my dac in front of the Liquid Carbon v1 at the time of demo). I figured the LCD X being open would not have this problem due to not having to worry about any reflections going on....

I'm not the best to describe this since I'm not that sensitive to sibilance. I would say for me, only on certain recordings do I get much sibliance from the mojo/lc/x combo. I love the treble extension on the X's and find it to be pretty smooth overall.
