Audeze LCD-X

Hey @orbilius!

Thanks for the kudos! I'm pleased that you're pleased! And I'm glad that you customized it to your liking...I spend extra time and effort to make all my EQs easily customizable because I know that no two persons' tastes are the same!

You might be interested to know that there is a more current LCD-X EQ (that I personally like better than the 03-05-23 version) that along with (to answer your question) a DT1990 EQ is going to be released along side Peter Verbeek's next update of PEACE which comes out soon. But I've posted both EQs already. I've attached both of them for you to try out as well as instructions on how best to customize them to your liking.

Blessings,
Jonne
Dude, your EQ profile for the LCD-X 2021 it's just amazing!!!, like everything that it's good on the LCD-X it's just turn up to 11 and everything that was a little bit or somewhat sub-par was smooth out. The only thing that I did to suit this to my preferences was turn down the bass like 3 or 4dB and that was it, everything else it's perfect or close to perfect.

I just wish we could EQ better ergos and comfort into the LCD line from Audeze and then there wouldn't be a need to buy any other headphone ever.

Btw, and if it's not much to ask, would happen to have a EQ profile for the OG Clears with original pads?, if you're doing this amazing work with the LCD-X, I want to hear what you can do for a Focal.

In my experience on the LCDX 2021 both the Audeze Leather and Leather free pads sound identical. The memory foam is the same and the distance between the transducer is the same.

I’ve tried one of the leather Dekoni pads and they make it sound awful. They drastically change the LCDX tuning so I wouldn’t recommend them.

I haven’t tried DMS’s LCD2 Vegan pads yet so I can’t speak to those but I’ve heard great things if you’re using those for an LCD2 pre-fazor.
Would this Vegan pads from DMS happen to work with the LCD2C by any chance?, I'm thinking of selling or giving away those headphones but if I can salvage them with a pad change and they end up offering something different and bring something to the table distinc to the LCD-X sonically speaking, then maybe it's worth the try, tho I'm looking forward to ripping those pads and sticking new ones, that process seems like a really tedious one.

In theory they would work. All Audeze pads are designed to work with Audeze headphones with exception to the LCD5 pads that are different.

Keep in mind DMS designed and tuned them to be a spiritual successor to the original Audeze Vegan pads for the LCD2 Prefazor models. The LCD2C is quite a different headphone comparatively so it might not sound as intended. Like all Audeze’s you might need to EQ to get what you’re looking for out of them.

The Audeze Vegan DMS pads are designed to add more treble energy to the LCD2 Prefazor to get them better in line for balance.

Thanks, I think I'm gonna skip those pads then and maybe see if somebody wants this headphone, because I really havent listen to it for a while since I got the LCD-X.

Fair enough. In general I love the Audeze sound but haven't heard an Audeze that I'd like to own aside from LCDX 2021. Good luck with your sale on the 2C's.

I'm probably going to gift it to a friend or see if a reviewer here in mexico wants to but it from me or wants it to do a review of it.

I bought some new spare leather pads for my LCD-X from Thomann.de.

However, the ones that were sent to me look completely different from the mounted leather ones, despite the wording on the package showing "KIT, EARPAD, BLK LEATHER W-OPEN CELL FOAM, LCD" the pads have a finer, softer texture and a more faded black color as if they were the synthetic leather ones that I have already had the chance to handle on a pair of LCD2-Classic.

While the leather pads mounted on the LCD-X are rougher to the touch, harder and with a more irregular surface.

I am sending the comparison photos of the pads still mounted on my LCD-X and those that were sent to me by Thomann.

Taking photos from another site, the new pads look more like these:

They don’t look like official Audeze pads to me. Especially if the memory foam feels different. Audeze is incredibly consistent with their pads in both vegan and leather versions. I’d be asking for a refund if I were you and buy from Audeze direct.

Thomann is an official dealer in Europe of Audeze products, it seems strange to me that they are not official pads.

the label shows the code EAR1057-KT which should indicate that they are leather pads while the vegan leather ones have the code EAR1058-KT.

The only thing that comes to mind is that lately Audeze has changed the leather it uses for its pads compared to those of the past, but honestly I prefer the old ones

Looks like you have a pre 2021 LCDX and they sold the post 2021 pads. I'll have to dig my LCDX out to verify but iirc they have the same pads as yours. My 2023 LCD3 has the pads that thomann sent you.

No, it's a post 2021 LCD-X, also purchased from Thomann in 05/2022 and sold as a 2021 model, so it's the most recent revision.

I'm thinking instead that probably Audeze is no longer using lambskin for their pads so they are different from the ones they previously produced with lambskin.

If your 2023 LCD-3 has the same pads that Thoman sent me, I'm afraid Audeze no longer makes the lambskin pads, which is a real shame because I much preferred them.

That's probably the most likely case and interesting I thought the big change on post 2021 LCDX where the changes to the pads.

My LCD-X 2021 leather pads look very similar to the ones you got from Thomann. Could also be slight unit variations.

At this point it seems clear that Audeze has changed its pads again, the post 2021 leather pads had a more irregular surface, the leather was rougher and thicker to the touch, these new pads are probably still real leather but are more similar to vegan leather pads.

Interesting. I took a closer look at my pads and they look closer to your old set. Yours from Thomann also seem to have an extra seam on the inside part which is not present on mine or your old set. It's most likely still real leather though.
