Audeze LCD i4 TOTL In-Ear Monitor Discussion
Oct 6, 2017 at 10:17 AM Post #1,051 of 4,796
Has anyone compared these to the laylas?
First of all, I don't think LCD i4 should be compared to other high end (closed back) in ear monitors.... Audeze have created a new segment all together ...they are open headphones not even semi-open... I had the opportunity to compare Kaiser encore & Roxanne ... they provide excellent isolation & sound in noisy environment... but in a quiet room LCD i4 easily trumps them especially the trebles... after listening to LCD i4 for over a month.. it's very hard to go back to all the closed back gears...Also LCD i4 requires a lot of good amplification.. 35 ohms impedance is misleading... it scales very well with good amplifiers( desktop grade)...with my Kann I have to run them on high gain with almost 2/3rd volume and then also I feel something is lacking... but with hugo 2 it's a different story altogether.. I have not tried the LCD i4 with tube amplifiers like WA8 ..
Audeze have really set a new standard in portable audio ....

So if I got a Schiit Yggdrasil DAC and Ragnarok amp the LCDi4 would just sing? Sounds awesome...

This is very true. I couldn’t go back to closed back iems or headphones. I bought the isine 20 to complement the LCDi4 if not just for taking conference calls. I got used to the music playing in public spaces. Actually I now prefer it as with lower volumes so that I’m aware of my surroundings.

I cannot comment about the sound quality with schiit flagship combo...but as stated by Audeze n few reviews on this thread & elsewhere....its evident that LCD i4 responds to quality amplification... my s7edge drives them easily but it's a day and night difference when I run them with the hugo 2...

Totally agree. It’s definitely in a league of its own.

Just received my Lavricables. Its a silver cable. I wonder how much burn-in s required to make cable sound good?

Just realised I had one channel of the cable inserted wrongly. Basically out of Phase so it sounded strange. Followed the L, R signs blindly without looking at the indent and groove. Fixed it and wooooaaahh....liking it very much. So much more clarity than the stock cable.

From DARko's review:
Thiagasamudram elaborates: “With Audirvana+, the solution is quite simple. Audirvana+ supports AU plugins. The REVEAL plugin we will release next month supports VST, AU and AAX. All Audirvana+ users have to do is choose the REVEAL plugin. The REVEAL plugin uses exactly the same presets.”

@Audeze When is the REVEAL plugin coming out? Today is next month, no?

We are beta testing it. Full release is in a couple of weeks. If you are at RMAF, you can see it in action this weekend

I'm unfortunately very far from RMAF.. but couple of weeks is manageable, they anyway sound splendid out of everything I tried so far.
Cannot imagine that something can be improved, but I look forward to it!!

I was looking at the Lavricables silver as well. How do you find the weight, flexibility (stiffness) and microphonics with it compared to the stock cable. I love how flexible the stock cable is and the negligible microphonics that come with that.

Fwiw, on the lavricables site, they recommend 150hrs burn in for the silver cable (I have no personal experience with their cables though)

7D7DA33D-DF6D-4F57-BDD5-B9FDEF5FCE4F.jpeg My Norne Audio Silvergarde cable came for my LCD i4. The cable is excellently crafted and has tails added so I can do 2.5 mm balanced, XLR as well as SE 1/4. I can now easily jam out with my i4’s while hooked up to my desktop system.

Sweet! I am so close to deciding to go ahead and order Yggy and Ragnarok and drive these LCDi4 with authority!

That would be the time to go with a Norne Silvergarde but I was not aware Trevor would build a cable with different ends inclusive. Very interesting.

By tails do you mean adapters? It’d be great if you can post a close up picture of the tails. Thanks!
