You would think you could most definitely feel the difference on your head though. Perhaps since it was all new to him it wasn't something he noticed he could notice if he thought about it. Interesting non the less..Knowing the price going in before hand, was he surprised he chose the elegia over the lcd5 after the fact ?
Some people will prefer closed backs to open backs for many different reasons. The Elegia is a competent closed back.

He was surprised, but it at the least does prove the higher you scale (to a point) that there is a huge difference in quality. The Elegias are no joke for their price range, I personally didn't like its awkward sound and was CONSTANTLY EQ'ing the hell out of it. The Celestee feels better out the box and I'm super happy with it.

As for the LCD-5, I can hear the small % difference and don't mind the price gap. Not saying I'm made of money, I just got nothing else to burn money on, haha.

Right on. I just always see people making analogies and equating TOTL to high end sports cars, but in most cases unaware consumers would probably never be able to guess which one is supposed to be the "ferrari". In scenarios like yours when they didn't know the price, picked the cheaper one and then are told, the reaction would most likely be "What THA !?".

I'm pretty sensitive to treble (which I found out once I switched away from my DT1990s haha). I run the VO stock tuned and I can easily listen to the stock tuning of the LCD-5. So it was a relatively easy transition. However; I do listen to the LCD-5's with Resolve's EQ because it brings up the bass to a sublime level and ever so slightly tames the upper mids to where no type of music becomes fatiguing and I can listen all day.
Oh boy, that's bad. Bad because it's just making me want the LCD-5's more haha. I might be needing to put my Ironwood VO on the classifieds for funds :frowning2:

I made some tweaks to Resolve's parametric EQ. Kept the stock bass, tamed the shouty mids, and a slight boost in the treble. Give it a try and let me know what you think.

1000hz -1.2db Q=2
2100hz +1db Q=3
3000hz -1.5db Q=1
5500hz -1db Q=1
5720hz -1.5db Q=1
6700hz +1db High shelf filter

Here is a small comparison of Resolve and Oratory.
The frequency curves are from the Neutron Player and show what changes you make.
Preamp: -8.3db

Has Roon got the pre set EQ for the LCD-5 yet? If so, could someone please comment on any sound improvements? I'm trying to decide whether to go dedicated Streamer route with Roon capability or Computer being OS or Windows. If it's dedicated Streamer, I'd be operating Roon via my iPad so no need to buy a PC.

for "budget" desktop amp, singxer is my top choice as well for LCD-5

xlr output is a must in this case
If you are comfortable with modding, you can remove a jumper that decouples the output capacitor. I have heard this slightly increases the dynamics.

Well this is not the impression I've had when I had them individually for home auditions, but having them side by side, the Elite is winning big time for me

What's the current flavor of EQ people prefer for the LCD-5? Curious if that can level the playing field.
