Audeze LCD-5 Review, Measurements, Interview

Think I found an viable portable option for when walking around the house with LCD5-the surprisingly cheap yet powerful L&P W2 dongle (keep in mind, the original; not the new 131 DAC which doesn’t drive as well on A/B). Drives it better than SP2000 as well.

Of course you lose quite a bit of soundstage depth and layering versus desktop units, but the more forward/less technical sound is a fun, dynamic, and engaging listen. On tuning 2, it becomes mid-centric which is euphoric for vocals, with bass and treble taking a backseat. It’s definitely on the energetic side with emphasized upper-mids.

Sue me for discussing a $299 pairing option. :)

She doesn't have to stab you to death, she'll take everything when it over anyway.
I can attest to that sadly lol…all I was left with was my HP’s

You may be right about the DAC being the most part of the chain in driving the LCD-5's. For S&G's I tried the LCD-5's on the Xduoo MT-604 hooked up to my Dave as the DAC. If I'm being honest, I'm finding very little to fault about the sound. It's almost laughable at how good the LCD-5's sound because there such a big price disparity between the two components.

Interesting set-up...

Does the Xduooo bottleneck the performance of the Dave in any way?

Holo May KTE -> Holo Serene KTE -> Kicker KX200.4 (circa 2005) -> LCD-5

In a way, it does. The best aspects of the Dave don’t fully shine because the Xudoo is limited in performance. At the same time, the Dave does makes it sound better

I sometimes am worried i might end up in the same scenario as i often put more attention on my headphones than my wife. And that ain’t good.
(just a bit of self reflection on my part)

So any advantages of coupling the dave with this tube amp? is there a specific reason you went with this pairing?

What about buying two LCD5s (to stay with the thread) and listening some favourite romantic songs simultaneously with a bottle of fine wine as a prelude to a nice evening spent together ? ☺

It was more so out of curiosity. I wanted to see what it was capable of when paired with a top flight DAC. Surprisingly enough, the sound isn’t that bad. I believe the tubes are limiting its performance.

Been eqing bass and treble with some red eq called Bellari got it off Amazon. I like how bass just bumps on the LCD 5 and some boost in treble.

I have the Loki Max and have done a little EQ with the 5.

Interesting. How you compare to parametric with same eq profile or is it even possible to get the same result?

I just tried HQ Player through Roon and it was good. I don't know if it's $500 (edit - $250) good though.
