Jesus Christ imagine saying that a cable can add BASS to a headphone's sound. You would literally have to connect a dedicated shelfing filter circuit to not add bass, but cut everything that is not bass, to have an audible effect. The amount of lack of understanding of auditory, signal, and electronic theory on this site is astounding.
This guy is either a product of the US public school system, or he's selling cables.
Now that these have settled down awhile, do owners of both still think these outdo the HEKse? In bass? Soundstage? Detail? Comfort? Or are they equally fine but just for different purposes?
I just picked up an HEKse last month, and although I’ve heard the LCD-4, I haven’t heard the 5. I realize they’re quite different, but I wasn’t enamored by the LCD-4 at all (nor by the LCD-X I auditioned a couple of years ago). But I’m so stunned by the HEKse that I’m struggling to imagine anything sounding better, at least for the rock genres I prefer. I’m not a Beats-range basshead but I definitely prefer a low-end shelf a few dBs above flat.
With those criteria in mind, does anyone have any insights they’d mind sharing?

IMO, the thing that LCD-5 does notcieably better than the HE1000se is imaging. The positioning of the instruments with the LCD-5 is something special. The LCD-5 also has tighter bass while the HE1000se has more sub bass and is more airy in the top end. I have owned the HE1000se since the end of 2020 and the LCD-5 since 2021 and I still own the HE1000se. I sold the LCD-5 due to its elevated mids which needed eq to sound good in my rig, so it had to go.

I have owned the hekse. Only sold them when I moved to the susvaras.
demoed the lcd5 the other week.
i highly rate the hekse and the too end can be bright for some. Bottom end was great. Tight.
the bottom end of the lcd5 was exceptional (with niimbus and chord dave) but it may come at a cost of what happens in the upper mids/top end.
if someone (you) likes the hekse and are curious about the lcd5 i would definitely recommend a demo. Not hugely far away from each other but different and, as usual, personal preferences will matter when deciding if they are balanced correctly for you

Any cable could be viewed as a filter, because no real-life cable is a perfect conductor. In some cases (capacitance, inductance) it is easily measurable with common tools, in some cases (dielectric losses, skin effect etc.) - not.
If an aftermarket cable filters low frequencies to a lesser extent than the stock cable, then from listener perspective new cable literally “adds bass”.
If new cable have lower resistance (and other characteristics, but let’s not dive too deep into theory) it will improve the electrical damping of transducer-amplifier system and literally “add punch” from a listener perspective.
the 5 is a HP that has lots of different opinions...some love it some are lukewarm...I myself bought and sold them and just bought them back and am enjoying them more the second time around
while it may not draw you into the music as much as an Empyrean or Rognir, it does a more faithful job of presenting the recording exactly as intended and has better resolution than either one of those exceptional headphones.
