Audeze LCD-4z - Impressions Thread

yes i have both

read my prior posts answers there.

look at darkos review on empy falling between 4z and hd800s... i think 24 is meant to go after empy .... same price.
Read your comparison post. Not sure how I missed it. It does seem like Audeze is indeed listening and making their HP's a little less dark sounding. The GX is supposed to be a little brighter too. I saw Darko's Empy review and he couldn't stop throwing shots at the 4z by saying how dark sounding it is in relation to the Empy and HD800. These are supposed to be a little lighter I believe, so they got that. Now if they can make the pads easier to change and drop that price a little more this might be a winner. If this is indeed a little brighter with even more resolution it might be right up my alley, as long as that monstrous bass response of the 4/4z remains untouched.

What is this Audeze LCD-24??

There is no official announcement? Or is there?

There's no official announcement yet, but a review came out early (on a website called Positive Feedback, easy to find on Google). Audeze refers to the LCD-24 as a "pet project"; a limited-release model. It uses the Fluxor magnets and nano-scale diaphragm of the LCD-4 and LCD-4z, but the magnet configuration of the LCD-2. This uses fewer magnets (explaining why it's $500 cheaper), making it a bit harder to drive due to lower flux, but Audeze states there are also advantages to the different magnet layout, increasing resolution and improving the stereo image. I'm waiting for the LCD-24 thread to pop up btw, so this discussion can move there.

brighter and more resolution... but gives up a bit in meaty dept. after breaks in more may change.. only about 15 hrs on them.

doubt it will equal 4z/4 entirely meat wise.... but I can see this sig hitting the sweet spot for many

certainly not as feather weight as the Z1R... but c'mon this talk about weight is insane.

Stop living in the past! Not just you but everyone who thinks a LCD-4 at 735g is acceptable!!

No body wants anything higher than 450g in weight! like nobody! Only liars! Bloody fanboi liars!

Just like Iphones, we want bigger, lighter, thinner! This is a recommended must now! The future is thin, featherweight, bigger, perfected engineering.

Every Headphone should be capped at 450g and striving for that golden weight of 350g or lighter. HD800 is 330g in weight.

We should set fines on headphone companies if they release a headphone over 450g. Ticket them for incompetent weight distribution on us.

Thanks for posting these impressions! The question now becomes: can we give up this 'meat' I am assuming that term correlates with terms like "solid" or "speaker-like" sound, and a full and thumping bass? These are some of the things I love about the LCD-4z. But more resolution certainly sounds great.

I am personally interested in listening to and producing genres like progressive house and deep house on these. So bass has to be great, but resolution/neutrality helps with mixing. I suppose my ideal headphone would be the LCD-4z with slightly enhanced resolution/neutrality. (I prefer the 4z over the MX4, though.) Any recommendations for that use case?

At any rate, please keep posting, much appreciated.

Fostex TH-900, it has the best bass with great treble resolution. The treble is high up their thou.

I found that the 4Z dose not have a realistic bass representation. It sure was meaty! Full body, thick and lush. But is that realistic? No,I will say.

seems lighter not by much than 4z... have not weighed

but jesus christ guys... pencil necks? i have no problem wearing the 4z for hours.

certainly not as feather weight as the Z1R... but c'mon this talk about weight is insane.

Couldn't agree more. I have worn every Audeze headphone I have owned (2c, 3c, X, 4z) for literally hours even up to 20 hours straight while studying price charts or airbrushing etc. and I have never once had any adverse reaction or anything at all happen to my neck. I just do not understand what in the heck all these supposed men are bitching about. Been reading about this weight thing for years and it seems ridiculous to me. Now if they weighed 20 lbs or something like that, then yeah I could understand weight concerns. But GRAMS?!?! Meh, non-issue.

No it is not. 610g is not acceptable! Stop acting like it is. Foolishness..

This Audeze debaucable of weight accusation will forever be Audeze topic. Unless they fix this.

Btw I'm pretty sure I am stronger than you LOL

Well evidently not. Empirical evidence would suggest that those who continually complain about the weight of headphones that weigh 650 GRAMS may have some issues with their physiology.

Anyway I LIKE the weight and feel of my LCD4z. It does not feel like so much of everything these days, like cheap throw-away stuff. I like that.

Define "debaucable"?
