Audeze LCD-4z - Impressions Thread

Anyone tried the 4z with the SP1000 yet?

I am of the opinion the 4z sounds better out of the SP1000 compared to the Hugo2..

Will be interested to hear the opinions of others who heard both.

It sounds amazing from DX200 though :)

Adding something like Feliks Audio Echo will make things better, but 4Z surely sounds sweet from portables :)

Ooooh, you might :)

I am not kidding when I'm saying that LCD-4Z is darn amazing, and you can have all that sweetness portable now, truly amazing.

I only heard it shortly, the 4Z, but if I'll be able to, I'd love to write in depth about it. Seems to be different from MX4, more tuned for listening rather than mastering music :)

4z is simply an amazing headphone. Between the ability to use it with portable, lower power devices, and its stellar SQ, it is truly a TOTL masterpiece to be treasured and kept.
IMHO there are two such headphones: LCD4z and LCDi4. For myself only, these two render everything else largely irrelevant.

Excellent! A freely expressed opinion, of which I cannot disagree, as I haven't heard the SP1K, or the 4Z for that matter. I can say that although the LCD-X sounds great with my Hugo2, my QP1R comes close. I'd love to A/B the 4Z with both as well.

There is a certain level of happiness that one can experience when hearing superb sound in the less than ideal setup.

For example, I have a AKG K7xx that sounds great straight out of my DAP while I am tipsy sitting on a toilet. Comparing to my Sennheiser HD6xx which I just received that will need an amp and sit serious at the desk to sound good... .

So I guess I might eventually get the LCD-4z just so I can pretty much use it anywhere.

I say, LCD-MX4 and Feliks Audio Echo surely work well together, and well, if you're afraid of expensive Tube AMPs, this one is about 400 Eur, so not quite as expensive as most tube AMPs :)

Another smooth classic to take in on 4z. Listen deep into the song it carries me away...

Great review. Spot on. And yes they just love amplification. Glad I got the GLMk2 to drive these with H2. Good call there.
These headphones are phenomenal listening to all genres, but blues on these are just out of this world. Well really everything.
Could not recommend any headphones more highly than these.

True, these are perfect for so many genres, my list of albums on tidal is such a wild mix now, its amazing lol. Im oddly at piece now, no urge to hear other headphones or experiment.

so i take it that you find lcd4z nearly perfect

buying this headphone blindly is a huge let down if after being bought will not meet these praising impressions, as i can not audition such a headphone

i hope there are no recessed or veiled mids, or 4khz peaks that are fatiguing

things i try to avoid:

--the coldness and analytical sound of aeon flow closed, i think it has has everything i dislike from thin mids to stabbing upper mids and highs, and lack of bass. i give it in my book the worst tuned hp i heard in the 800 usd range. to be honest i just wish to know why mrspeakers gets praised for making great closed backs. literally its torture to listen to aeon flow closed back
--the lcd2c weird dips in mids and sometimes ringing of upper mids and sometimes imaging is not great , thanks god we have reveal plugin to address some of those issue
--the zmf atticus veiled sound as a whole, to be honest its way way over hyped
--the bit of thinnes in mids of hifiman edition x v2, its great but wish more rich mids and more bass, but as i mentioned its really a great hp. i bought the hifiman he1000 v2 that i will receive in few days i know it will be better than he x v2 as i heard it extensively.
-- i had the lcd x which was good but man its heavy so sold it. but wished for better richness of sound in the mids area
--- i had lcd2 pre-fazor and fazor, they were decent but wanted better
--- had oppo pm1 nice but lacked soundstage felt more to be a closed headphone and expensive for what its offering , so sold it

for 4k usd i expect an almost perfect headphone

I would keep an eye on the CanJam feedback thread over the next 3 days as there are several new contenders in the high end that it might be worth considering. I am certainly looking hard at the Ether 2.
