I will definitely be holding on to my wooden box and metal headband even though I have the newer options as well.

I seriously doubt it will have any effect on SQ.  The wood is on the outside, and it's a tiny little strip.  All the contact points with the driver and backwave are metal.  And even if it came into contact more than it does, I don't think it would change much.  I don't even think going from wood to plastic would change the SQ.  At least not very much, all things considered.

Sure, if the wood is darker then it will sound darker. If it's brighter, then it will sound brighter. Right?

(Just like copper vs. silver cables).

IMO these are all changes for the better -- a sign of a company who has their act together.  Quite a contrast from the knock-off artists who would have released 5 new models instead of refining the existing line.  Good stuff!

I spoke with my dealer a bit more today as I was wondering what version I actually got... he speculates the recent testing of the LCD-3 and changes to their driver mounting also led to new testing and poss modifications to the latest batch of Caribbean wood LCD-2 rev2s. Mine was shipped on Mar 9th, so I'll post photos if there is any noticeable difference at all...

I guess you don't know about the LCD-3?

Thanks for the enlightenment, but I am well aware of the LCD-3. New model, but not replacing the LDC-2.  And, the LCD-2 is undergoing a refined design.  Big effin' difference from the constant new model frenzy of another ortho-dynamic manufacturer.  Weak -- try again.

I don't see a huge difference.

Curious to know if down the road if the 3 year warranty has to be used, will there be an option to have the same rosewood or the newer wood. I have used the wood care package about every other week just to keep them in top shape.

I'm pretty sure he was alluding to all the issues Audeze has had with the LCD-3.  Not whether you had ever heard of them before.
