Audeze EL-8: The EL-8 is a must-hear at CES 2015

That's exactly what I did: ditched the open EL-8 and bought an LCD-X. And I couldn't be happier. Everything that was off or missing in the EL-8 was brought to outstanding fruition in the LCD-X. The cost was quite a bit more, but the return on investment was astronomically more.

Duh...

It's almost as if the EL-8 is just a marketing ploy by Audeze to sell more LCD headphones.

I think its Audeze trying to expand their market share to the mobile crowd than trying to sell more LCD's.  I don't think they did a good marketing plan to the mobile market and I think many who got the EL8 were expecting LCD type of headphone at a lower price point and were disappointed, just my 2 cents.

I'll chime in on what I said before. I heard fresh pairs of both open and closed and the open we're far superior. I would buy the open gladly if I didn't have lcd2s. I personally wouldn't pay sticker price, not even half for the disappointing sound of the closed. That is my own opinion.

My experience was echoed by a user a few posts down. Plenty of people have said recessed and distant sounding grainy treble out of the box for the closed. As for the sound improvement after burn in I'll leave it to owners who have owned theirs for a while.

Edit: I may also add that this may be a qc issue as many people have had wildly different impressions on the same product.

I reported on the closed, actually.

x2 I also don't like close version. But very happy with open.

Man, these cans are working out great for Audeze! Half the people who return then do so to buy another Audeze higher up the food chain. That is some brand power.

After listen to EL8 for four days and very satisfied, I consider to buy lcd-x or lcd-3. I will use el8 during working time, and lcd for serious listening

I would consider waiting for Ether. I have not auditioned it but many members have said it's superior to LCD-3.

It's not like I'm the only one who doesnt like Audeze. We have our own parties in our own buildings....you're not invited.

Well, I think everyone hear who is thinking of purchasing the EL-8 is interested in varying opinion...

But looking at the detailed and helpful post you made: I hate Audeze house sound.
I am inclined to say that this doesn't help anybody. First, for a non English speaker, HATE is a very strong word filled with lots of negative emotion and I would never easily use it while describing headphones. I mean, I hope nobody forces you to listen to them, so you can actually develop real hate for them.

Anyhow, I personally would be interested to hear what you dislike about their house sound and how you perceive it.

Just posting in a thread about a specific headphone that you HATE the companies house sound, is not helping anybody except yourself so you got that out of your system

So long,
K

I was really just joking. I wasnt trying to rain on anyone's parade, i just try not to take these forums too seriously. The Audeze house sound doesnt do it for me for a few reasons. First of all, they are too laid back for me. I am a very active listener, meaning when I listen to music thats the only thing I'm doing. I give the music my respect and attention to detail and let it consume me in a way. The laid back/dark sound signature makes me feel removed from the music and doesnt make me feel involved at all. The EL-8 was no exception to this. The LCD 2s sounded really closed in for an open headphone as well. Comfort was not a big deal to me, and I think the weight thing is a bit over exaggerated. Once again, I really wasnt trying to seem rude, my sense of humor may have trouble translating in type.

Ok, apologies as well if I didn't get the sarcasm or joke. No harm done.

But this post is very helpful. I do have the LCD-2 for a few weeks and I like it a lot, but you are right, they are laid back. I also have the opposite of laid back the Beyerdynamic T90 - and honestly I can't decide which one I like more - two very different signatures. But funny enough for me with the LCD-2 I pretty soon forget what I was doing or thinking and just get lost in the music. Similar to you with non-Audeze headphones

Ok, since my local audio store has informed me that they have the EL-8 in stock, I will test them out this week. Need to hear myself what this is all about....

cheers,
K
