Audeze CRBN Interview, Review, Measurements

Funny how this headphone release is attracting all sort of non-usual propositions in terms of amplifiers (anything but stax so far for the most part), as if there‘s a vaccum to fill before the stax mafia takes this over. Without any real feedback on what it takes to drive and/or voice this headphone, seems to me like we‘re putting the cart before the horses discussing amplifiers already.

Where have I seen this happen before...

To be fair, STAX is still stuck in 1994 with their amplifier offerings - nothing compelling, innovative or outright good sounding available except 2 models.

DIY is where the sky is the limit, and even so, it's so niche, complex and expensive, that there is tons of room for improvement in E-stat amplifiers.

As the category gains popularity again (or not), will we see new options present themselves, and hopefully systems on the backend that can handle some of these super advanced headphones (HE1, SG JR, CRBN, SR009)

I only live about 35 minutes away so this will be happening very soon. What else do you have in your demo room? I have yet to hear the LCD-4, LCD-4z or the LCD-24 (or the LCD-R :triportsad:). Fortunately I have owned/tried everything else!

I would ask via the demo email on whether they can accommodate other demos for you.

just ordered a pair.
have a Kerry T2, a pair of Kggshv Carbons, and a regular kgsshv sitting around. Will have fun.

will have fun comparing this to my planar setup
susvara, abyss tc, lcd4, driven by a CFA3 amp. .
For my personal listening, I used to own KGSSHV Carbon. Currently I drive my CRBN using KGSSHV Carbon CC also from Mjolnir Audio (Single ended, driven from Chord DAVE RCA). I rarely go past 10 - 11 O clock on the volume knob and DAVE is typically running at -10dB. I use DAVE for volume control mostly. My preference is for transparency and clean transient edges, I have stayed with SS amps.

Do you know what your settings would be if used a SR-009 instead? Just wondering are the comparably efficient.

I do not have my SR-009 with me any more, but I believe I had it between 9 -10 O clock (but please do not hold me to these numbers), CRBN traded some efficiency for bass extension.

Interesting about the efficiency comparison between the CRBN and the 009.

Since some here have asked, i would definitely NOT recommend using a stax amp like the srm-d50 or srm-d10. I have both of these (rarely used) and a KGSSHV Carbon to drive my 009S. The stax amps cannot control the bass on 009S with precision (among other issues). The Carbon is great! I would imagine the difference between an entry level and TOTL amp is even bigger for the CRBN

Excited to try. Will I be allowed to bring my Sr009s and KGST amp?

Since these are times of Covid how about a loaner/demo program to "pre-authorized" buyers. By this I mean those who can demonstrate current ownership of an amplifier capable of running these. This could be from a list of existing known stat amps such as Mjolnir, HeadAmp etc..
