ATTICUS and EIKON, the new dynamic driver headphones from ZMF

@zach915m You mentioned before that the suede pads would be a good match on the Atticus as alternatives to stock, but would that be the suede Ori or the suede Eikon pads? Or does it not matter, just that the Eikon pads are larger and cushier?

It'd be Suede ORi pads, the Eikon pads for the Atticus makes them flatter and muddier sounding IMHO. The suede pads cut a little mid bass and have a touch more treble, so they work best on the Atticus. Eikon suede work well on eikon, but are a touch bright for my tastes. Personally I like the lambskin pads best on these, and I think the non perf auteur pads are great as a more linear option for the Eikon.

Come on people, show the Barnyard some love! These are the last of the cherry Attici ever! :p Can’t wait to get mine...

While the Barnyard hasn't been as popular as the Cocobolo they certainly will be unique!

So stoked for being able to own one of the Cocobolo Atticus.

We just finished all the cups and we will start shipping these next week!!!

Still one set left to ship in the first batch before xmas.

Thanks @zach915m. My brother has a pair (of suede); hope I get to try some with mine

PS. Anyone driving the Atticus with a Darkvoice SE or Little Dot MkVI balanced tube amp?

I've been very interested in the Darkvoice 336SE for some time (based on many intriguing user comments about basic sound + tube-rolling possibilities)--but even more so now that I have an Atticus on order. But so far haven't found anyone who uses them together...

There are also some surscribers in the Darkvoice 336SE thread who modded their DVs for better sound/stability (stuff I could never do). If I ever get one (new or used), I'll reach out to 1 or more of those Head-Fi'ers to see if I could get them to mod mine (for suitable compensation or trade items).

I just couldn't resist... Bought a Barnyard Cherry Atticus. I already have a Camphor Eikon, so once the Atticus arrives it will be a no holds barred showdown to determine which suits my sound preferences better.

I've seen many objects made of cherry (furniture; decorative boxes; the occasional musical instrument) & thought I knew how cherry should be finished to look best. Then along came Zach's oxidized "barnyard" cherry finish. I've never seen cherry look like this--didn't know the wood's color could be transformed to this extent. It's very handsome, perfect for those large earcups ("something completely different").

I admire what Zach has accomplished with this new cherry finish. I think we all appreciate the high-level wood craftsmanship that's part of ZMF headphones, but this is more than just craftsmanship--it's innovation.

Silly question but how do I know which sight is right and left on the phones or ODC cables?
- on the phones is it the ZMF or A side of the headband?
- ODC cables: the labeled or unlabeled side?

I tried to go for the black friday deal and get a cable for the HD600, I was planning on getting suede pads for Atticus anyway... but it doesn't seem like the suede are listed on the order form, only lambskin and cowhide. all sold out? or can I just leave a note at the time of order that I prefer suede

We just won't have suede until possibly after the holiday so I didn't want to include it to make ppl wait. If you're okay with waiting I'm happy to include it, just leave a note!

Here's the link to ZMF's web page for barnyard cherry. The images aren't very large...maybe you can get them to maximize on your browser:
http://www.zmfheadphones.com/zmf-originals/zmf-ltd-barnyard-cherry

Earlier in this thread Zach posted several pictures of the barnyard cherry & cocobolo A&E. Very handsome, both of them (I ordered a cocobolo).

Back to barnyard cherry: if you're familiar w/the standard/light cherry wood Zach has used for several years (Omni/Ori, Atticus, Eikon)--notice how this new finish has the same smooth, no-pores appearance & relatively featureless grain (that's just how cherry looks), but is much, much darker?

I think it's a very different & appealing look for cherry. It kind of glows in a subtle way (the lighter parts seem softly illuminated from within).
