ATTICUS and EIKON, the new dynamic driver headphones from ZMF

Just want to say. The most satisfying headphones I've ever had for Rock: The ZMF Atticus, and the Kennerton Vali. Rock on :)

I'll have a Vali in a few weeks. Can't wait to see how it compares to the Atticus. :metal:

Does anyone have a good DAP that pairs well with either the A or E?

My work placed has moved to a new location where things are a bit tight space wise .... I’m looking for a portable or slightly larger desk top player for this new office location ... also I can not use my office PC as a source or to stream

Astell & Kern Kann?

Chord Mojo-Poly?

I'm using the ZMF Eikon mainly with my Mytek Brooklyn (Tidal streaming) and this sounds amazing. Really happy with it.
However for my analogue setup I'm currently using a Lehmann Audio Black Cube Linear and I'd like to upgrade to a balanced amp. What is a nice balanced amp in the same price category as the Lehmann that matches well with the ZMF Eikon?

For both the A&E, would picking up a Vioelectric (Lake People) V280 be a good upgrade from a Liquid Carbon? Black Friday sale is so tempting

I've heard the Eikon fairly extensively on both the Liquid Carbon (v2) and V281 (same balanced amp circuitry as V280, but w/addition of preamp functionality). I thought the Eikon sounded extremely good, though somewhat different, out of each amp:
  • Eikon's soundstaging is quite amazing with either amp, though the LC is a bit less dramatic
  • V281 had insane dynamics w/Eikon (like every other headphone): it has true "jump-factor." The LC, despite having pretty good dynamics in its own right, isn't on the same level (not sure any amp can beat the V281's dynamics)
  • It has been much discussed on V281 thread that this amp is slightly warm in tonality--but not truly warm in the sense that it brings warmth to every headphone. By contrast, the LC is truly warm, though the degree & subjective effect of ts warmth are up for debate (I happen to love what the LC does tonally; others I know like it less). The Eikon, which many call a somewhat warm & musically realistic HP, sounded no warmer on the LC--just different. It had a nice little glow that's hard to describe...
  • V281 beats LC on sheer resolution w/Eikon (w/every headphone); LC beats V281 on sheer sonic "beauty" (subjective impression on my part).

In general I find the V281 sounds authoritative and exactly like itself no matter what headphones it drives--it's very powerful & never seems over-matched. The LC, by contrast, has an uncanny ability to "lock in" with various headphones (including those considered to be warm) in ways that defy explanation. For example, I got the best-ever sound on my Fidelio X2s and E-Mu Teaks via the LC, though they also sounded quite good through V281.

In one sense--sheer power--the V280 is indisputably an upgrade vs LC (over double the LC's power). But that's not a huge factor w/the Eikon in my experience...like it would be with a planar HP, for example.

I have a cocobolo Atticus on order. All I can say is I'm very glad to have both the V281 & LC to try it with. If history is any guide, I'll hear a somewhat different kind of excellent sound from each amp w/that headphone.

Thanks Pharmaboy,

I’ve been checking things out ... decided to pull the trigger on the V280 with the 25% Black Friday discount. I don’t need a pre-amp and the height of the V281 is a bit too tall for my planned setup spot.

Good luck with the Atticus ... I know I’m enjoying both models immensely...

You're welcome. And congratulations in advance on your new V280. I suspect it will be a really good move for you.

@zach915m

Congrats on the Ltd roll-out. The Coco is gorgeous, and I bet the BC is stunning in hand. Well done sir!

So, do you have a plan for the frequency of these offerings? 1-2 a year, or are you just playing it by ear?

We are going to do Camphor as the stock wood and then as soon as we are done producing each limited run we will think about the next one. By having less stock woods it'll enable us to do more limited runs. Excited for that!!!!

You're welcome. And congratulations in advance on your new V280. I suspect it will be a really good move for you.

I've always liked the Violectric amps a lot, I miss my 281...=(

Great choice though!!!

@zach915m You mentioned before that the suede pads would be a good match on the Atticus as alternatives to stock, but would that be the suede Ori or the suede Eikon pads? Or does it not matter, just that the Eikon pads are larger and cushier?
