ATTICUS and EIKON, the new dynamic driver headphones from ZMF

Oh - yes this is correct. When you hit "add to cart" you get to choose the specific length you need. So 4 to 6 foot cables are the same price and then 7.5 to 9.5 feet cables are the same price.

Working on getting the Decware info up now. I'll have it up by the end of the day, hopefully with all the options etc correct!

I just checked out the Decware website and that's pretty awesome! Seems you guys have a nice collab going, I saw your cans on their site as well

Nice pics too! I'm going to have to step up my game a little more now.

Pharmaboy's brilliant comparison a few pages back was the last straw: I can't wait any longer to get these headphones! After trying to find one (in particuliar the Atticus) used online for several weeks now, I'm almost on the verge of purchasing either of the Eikon and Atticus. With only one exception, the used Atticus'/Eikons on the Sales Forum are in no way worth purchasing. They have exaggerated price tags that have no grounds in reality imo ($1000 for used Eikons? $800 for used Atticus? Come on!), especially considering that you lose the lifetime warranty -- which is of crucial importance. Someone even PMed me and offered me used Ori's, and then told me "good luck" when I offered $600, as he was "looking for $750 USD" -- like I was the low-balling...why are people of the impression that ZMF headphones are worth so much used, relative to its new price, than other used headphones out there?

The Atticus will easily be the biggest step of an upgrade I have ever done since I got interested in headphones, if I decide to buy it. The most expensive headphone I have ever purchased is the M1060 for $299 and the Fidelio X2 before it for $130. The X2 was my first entry into the audiphile society, and it completely blew my socks off when I first got it. It's still my daily driver. So going from something that costs $130 to something that costs $999 is extreme, and will come with quite a few expectations. So much so that It surpasses the spectrum of “brag about how expensive it is” on to “pretend you payed much less than what it actually costs, so people don’t get mad at you”. After reading through this entire thread, where many people have boasted how the Eikon/Atticus is actually cheap for the sound they produce, and how they easily beat every other closed headphones out there, and also rival/beat even more expensive open headphones, it certainly has set the bar high for me.

Although I purchased the M1060 a month back, and certainly enjoyed them over time, I still found them lacking in areas (being “veiled”, having too little bass, etc.) which users in here have commented defines me as a bass head with more interest in “fun” headphones. I don't disagree. I listen to headphones to enjoy my listening session, not to record songs -- I also want something that works terrific in all areas (music, movies, gaming) and in all types of music. The idea of changing headphones when going from one song to another doesn't feel practical to me. And reading through this thread, that's certainly the impression people have given these ZMF headphones; that they are GOAT contenders for their segment, and that they are true end-game allrounder headphones.

What are people's thoughts. Is the Atticus a good end game headphone for someone who enjoys a v shaped sound? Or will the TH-X00/Teak with Lawton mod provide just as good of a sound for a significantly cheaper price?

$1000 for a ZMF Eikon Cherry seems fair to me. You are getting a $300 discount and normally you would have to wait 1-3 months to make these. What other popular top tier headphone gets discounted at more than 25% used on a daily basis? Even at $900,at a 31% discount for a Cherry Eikon seems incredibly cheap to me, especially since you save 1-3 months of potential wait time.

I preordered mine and I would gladly pay $1000 for the sound quality alone.

On another note, I wonder if it's just my pair but the Eikons doesn't really "clamp" onto my ears. It kind of floats vertically down over your ears(like the AKG 7xx or the HD 800). Is this suppose to be normal?

You and others make it sound like I was talking about buying a new ZMF headphone. We're talking about used items. It should automatically lose a lot of its value by being used. Then there's the fact that unlike most other used items with receipts/warranties, the ZMF headphones lose their warranty when transferring to another buyer. For an item as expensive as what we're talking about, and one that has a life warranty, that's a huge deal.

The used prices are very reasonable. Why should an item depreciate so much? I think that as long as the headphones have not been cosmetically marred in some way, they should go for $300 less than the new price on the used market. $1100 for Paduak Eikons, $1000 for Cherry. $700 for Cherry Atticus and $800 for Paduak Atticus.

We honor our headphones with good support and repair whether you were the original buyer or not. Yes if an issue arises and you weren't the original owner there may be a small cost for the repair (only larger cost is driver replacement, but that is extremely rare). But I do hate seeing any of our headphones become out of use because of a warranty issue, so I try to make it as easy financially and logistically as possible for anyone, new or used to get their headphones in perfect shape. We have never turned away anyone trying to get their headphones repaired.

On another note, the Decware amps are listed.

http://www.zmfheadphones.com/metrum-decware/

Please let me know if there's any issues with the listings, I think I got all the info correct. The new bases really are stunning in person. I will be finalizing my "ZMF tube Choices" in the next few days based on availability and testing. I will list them here and in the Decware thread when they are all set.

As another aside. Our stock of the Metrum Amethyst will be arriving shortly. I have not heard it yet but early reports are that it is a great unit and carries similar sonics to the Pavane and Adagio as they utilized some trickle down tech for the boards.. I certainly will be using it at upcoming shows.

The wood grain variations of the Camphor is going to make for some truly unique and beautiful bases for those Decware units. Nice timing.

I had the Taboo MK IV at the Long Island meet on the far right side of my table. On the far left side was the AmpsandSound Kenzie, another brilliant amp!

@zach915m

The amp bases look great, and I love the color-match option.

Any possibility of offering a bundle price (discount) for folks looking to get an A/E and a new amp? Just have to ask...

If you use coupon: ZMFDECWAREBUNDLE It will give you another $100 off if you buy both ZMF's and the amp. I know it's not a lot but it's something right? It's very hard to build any more discount into these as the cost of parts is just very high and neither Steve or I have priced our work to sell to distributors etc.

Of note, if any Decware owners want just the base - they can be ordered for $300 a la carte. I will add this to the site shortly as well.

Just received my Eikon and Atticus. I received them in factory lacquer. They really look amazing. Obviously the pauduk has a gorgeous deep red, but what surprised me was the subtle beauty of the lacquered cherry. I returned my LCX-XC before purchasing these headphones and was worried they wouldn't compare to the build-quality of the XC. Well my fears were unfounded because these are built like tanks.

My only concern are the rods supporting cans. They move quite easily. The headphones don't seem to readjust when they're on my head though. So perhaps when the headphones are expanded to fit my melon-head there's increased friction? I figured I can always use small rubber o-rings to prevent movement if the friction reduces over time.

I haven't had much time to listen but the colored Atticus really is amazing with EDM music such as Madeon. Another happy customer and Zach was very communicative and friendly. Definitely recommend...even if you're impatient like myself.
