ATTICUS and EIKON, the new dynamic driver headphones from ZMF

It's going to be killer, I've never heard anything sound bad on a RAG. It's neutral with a VERY slight touch of liquidity/girth IMHO. Very nice sound. While I haven't heard the ZMF stuff on the RAG, it'll sound great. A OTL is definitely not necessary for the ZMF's, they will just give a different flavor with their higher ohm output and higher voltage swing at higher ohms (in some cases.)

Agreed with @KimbaWLion!!!

I am going to be getting a Ragnarok and was wondering if it would be suitable with the Atticus or Eikon. Seems like it will be. :)

Now I am very interested in one of these headphones to pair with my HD800.

I recently got a Euforia from the Feliks guys, and they will be showing the Eikon this weekend at London CanJam for those lucky enough to be there!

The Euforia imho is pretty fantastic with the Atticus Eikon too, I see you have one I your sig. See of you can find a pair of tungsol 6336 tubes or similar for it as well, was a great tube upgrade for mine.

And yeah the Ragnarok is great!

I've been a fan of Feliks Audio amps for a while, having owned both Elise and Euforia now. I am glad you think that Euforia will be fantastic with the Atticus and Eikon. I'm delighted. I've indeed place an order for a Ragnarok to pair with my Yggdrasil.

Tung Sol 6336 for Euforia? Are you sure? Don't think Euforia accepts that. Are you referring to Tung Sol 5998 instead? I have a large selection of tubes. Too much in fact. Sorry for going off topic.

Thanks for responding Zach. I know Lukasz well. Glad Feliks Audio is making an appearance there. I can't be there. I am from Sydney Australia. :)

I will get in touch with you Zach, once I've make up my mind on either Atticus or Eikon. Looks like a hard choice at the moment.

By the way, I'm looking for a rich mid-range with a good strong bass for my intended headphone. I also have T1 and HD650 in my inventory.

Zach, are these the tubes you are referring to....if so be careful and make sure the transformer in your amp will handle a pair of these....they draw almost 5 amps each...so about the same amount as a pair of 6AS7 tubes.
They sound great , just make sure you are safe to run them as to avoid damage to your amp.

These are the graphite plate 6336, these are the ones you need to make sure about....they are the big brother to to Bendix 6080 graphite plate tubes.

Hey @UntilThen I am jelly that you may order now :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Wait... I have to do a 'Eeny, meeny, miny, moe' on Atticus and Eikon. I'll do that a thousand times or until Zach tells me which is better for me. Then I have to decide what wood. It has to be balanced xlr 4pin cable with an additional xlr to 1/4 adapter to be use with Euforia if I want to.....

Yup will run it with both Ragnarok and Euforia.... choices can be a headache.

I just saw people using 6080's instead of the 6AS7G's the Euforia comes with and I found the 6336's at a good price so I gave it a shot. I'm glad I did they haven't left my amp since so....I think the transformer is fine but I will run a search for exact specs of each tube to make sure.

Ha, I have a hard time telling people which headphone to get, in person usually it's 65% prefer Eikon's more neutral and punchy presentation over the slight warmth of the Atticus. This can sometimes depend on the setup and ofcourse the listeners tastes. The EIkon is usually the safer bet for those who haven;t heard them, as it's less amp picky. The Atticus is a great match with that Euforia though!!!!!

So, forgive my dimness, is the Eikon more accommodating to different amps, meaning the differences presented by different amps doesn't change their sound so much? While the Atticus's sound changes more, good or worse, depending on it's amp pairing?

Well, I think this is generally what most people have noticed, but I think it might actually be more a symptom of the driver design and tuning of each headphone. The Eikon does change based on what amp is driving it quite a bit, but the changes are easier to notice in the Atticus because of the more accentuated bass, the more nodal movement of the Atticus driver (Eikon has a rubber surround and stiffer biocel, Atticus does not) and the more laid back tuning of the Atticus treble. I find that because there are less accentuated features in the FR of the Eikon that it doesn't "seem" to change as much based on the amp even though ofcourse the timbre does change based on the source etc.

This Frequency response ofcourse stays the same or very close to the same depending on the amp if the headphones are driven with enough power (100 mW @ 300 ohms is plenty)

All I can say at this point is that the Atticus works beautifully with the Valhalla 2, which, for some, is considered a solid-state-souding tube amp. For my tastes, it's close to perfection.

Zach, you are getting me all tripped up. It's good to know the Atticus is a great match with Euforia. Presumably you have tried it. Have you tried the Eikon with Euforia?

If both these headphones pair well with both Euforia and Ragnarok, I could get an overdose of happiness. :smile_phones:

With my headphones, I have a preference of HD800 over my modified HD650.

Hah - sorry I know it can be confusing! The Euforia is a great match with both, the rag is great with both, really I think if you have a slight preference to hd800 over the 650 you probably prefer the eikon as a sidekick over the Atticus. With both those amps you'll certainly be getting the full potential from either the eikon or Atticus.

This is like great news to me on a Sunday morning. Thanks Zach.

Both my amps a great match with Atticus and Eikon? Sounds too good to be true. :)

Prior to coming here, I have a list of headphones to consider based on my requirements for a headphone with a rich mid-range and a strong, controlled and quality bass:-

Hifiman HE-6
Audeze LCD2.2
Focal Elear
Fostex TH900
ZMF Ori
ZMF Eikon
ZMF Atticus

Who would have known that the 2 I put last in the list, would be one of the headphones I would eventually go for. I am almost decided. :)

They're home in all of their blazing beauty! :)

What a beauty. You're making it hard for me to decide. :)

Besides Euforia and Ragnarok, I also have the La Figaro 339 and Darkvoice 336se.

Will use all these amps on the eventual ZMF headphone I get.... see which combination works best for my ears.
