ATTICUS and EIKON, the new dynamic driver headphones from ZMF

The isolation is actually pretty decent considering it has large vents, however in a busy space I would not recommend. It largely blocks out the sound of my ac(it is a particularly noisy one to be fair) but not completely, so any more noise than that I feel you would notice quite a bit. If you have your own office you should be fine, otherwise IEMs or ANC TWS are still my go to for isolation.

Hi everyone. I was looking into getting an Atticus for office use. Wanted to know if the Chord Mojo 2 or the iFi iDSD Micro BL would be enough to drive them. And does the Atticus do a good job at isolation?
I think they would do well in mild to moderate noise situations. If you're trying to minimize typical office background, I'd consider them adequate. You could still hear someone close talk at you directly or hear your phone ring if you're listening at lower volumes.

Hey thanks a lot for the replies guys. But, I apologize that I did not word my question right. I actually meant to ask if they leak considerable sound. Though they are closed backs, the vents had me concerned.

And any info on the power required to drive them would be great.

Oh in that case, at my own reasonable listening levels there is little to no sound leakage and you'd have to keep your ear quite near the vents to hear anything at all (source: just created a seal with the pads and moved my head closer till I could hear the sound :p). I can turn it up a fair bit before the leakage is ever actually noticeable.

With regards to the amount of power required to drive them, I don't think they are quite as power hungry as I had originally thought. I only need to put it on medium gain on the Fiio Q7 out of a single ended jack. It can actually get to un-listenable volumes on medium. I can't really give you more than that with my own experience I am afraid as all the other amps I tried to run it out of had excess power for most of any headphone and I never touched the gain settings.

I only have the Sennheiser HD 6XX to compare to, but Atticus requires less power than those to get to the same volume.
Nice, thx for the info. Should be ok in the office then and the iDSD may be enough to power them.

Yes to both. The Micro Bl is the more powerful of the two, with the DAC being better in the Mojo2. Can't go wrong with either. Previously owned the Mojo 1 and Micro Bl.

Minimizing sound leakage is a big priority for me; my wife shares my home office with me, and she is especially sensitive to sound.

I have had multiple closed back headphones in my office, and I can play the Atticus louder than any other headphone without disturbing her.

For what its worth, I have had IEMs that leak more sound than the Atticus...

I'm coming around on the Atticus. I know my initial reaction was not so positive, but the sound has really improved since switching to the suede pads. With the leather pads, the bass is just too much. The suede pads tame that bass while maintaining the warmth. I don't quite have the right amp for them yet, but that's what I'm working on. These headphones are still a bit heavy and clunky for my liking, but they do sound a league above the cheaper headphones that I own, and I'm enjoying the sound of something in a higher tier. And I admire ZMF for actually making darker, lusher-sounding headphones when so many other manufacturers think everyone wants overly bright V-shaped sound.

Can someone who has experience with both the VC and the Atticus, highlight key difference between the two? Especially the timbre and the mids.
I have owned both for a couple years now, and first off they are both fantastic headphones. Also, just for reference my Atticus is in Cocobolo (a harder wood than stock), and my VC's are in Ambrosia Maple (lighter wood). The Atticus is warmer, thicker and more mid focused with a smooth and powerful sound, and the VC's are faster and tighter making them more nimble with a more "neutral" sound. The VC has better extension in the sub bass and treble, and have a more linear sound top to bottom that works well for any genre I throw at them. My Atticus are more of a specialist in that they are more mid focused, with the big focus on the middbass and then another little peak somewhere in the upper mids, that helps balance out the middbass. The VC's have a bit lighter touch, and are much more open sounding, and the Atticus are heavy handed and smooth with more intimate staging. Both headphones are warm, but the VC's speed helps all the detail come through better. I like my VC's for every genre, and my Atticus for anything guitar focused and acoustic stuff. One last thing, the Atticus is a more forgiving headphone that I can listen with loud and long, and the VC's will let you know if the recording is bad.

Hope that helps a bit.

Wow that is great info, thank you. Would the stock Atticus have similar characteristics when compared to the Cocobolo one? And are you using the Atticus with Velour Pads which I have heard tame the midbass to an extent?
I do have a Koa VC that I use at home and was considering getting an Atticus to use at work where I prefer listening to acoustic stuff. Would you consider a stock Atticus at 550 to be good deal for that purpose?

No prob and glad to help! I use the stock Ori Lambskin pads on my Atticus and have never felt the need to change them. Also, I have not heard the stock wood, but for your use case I imagine the Atticus in stock wood would be perfect, and you do have the option to pad roll should you need it. The harder the wood the more immediate the sound, but you still get the same type of sound overall. I really think the Atticus would be a great work headphone, due to its forgiving and musical nature while still being totally capable, and it can scale quite well with better gear too.
