Does the W1000X leak as much as this review says? He also apparently got it for 29000 Yen / 350 USD, but rates its value only 3,5/5.

it depends on how loud you listen and how good your workmates hear :)
Denons leak more, imho.
Shure srh840 and Beyers DT770 isolate much better

according to isolation alone, I wouldn't rate w1000x very high either. it's average in that regard...

Thanks for the feedback guys. From all the research I've done on these they'd probably be perfect for me, but I can't afford them at the moment despite being on sale for $399 on buydig. I've settled for a lower model of Audio-Technica's but I hope to one day get my hands on these

Why, which ATs are you going for instead?

For the second time, I have to say goodbye again to this club.

Actually I always adore the Grandioso, they have stunning looking (I prefer the overall build of Grandioso over W3000ANV) and unique presentation (the balcony sound), but somehow I just almost always reach my PRM anytime I want to listen the music instead of the Grandioso, I think it's just matter of preference anwy :)

Balcony sound?

Iyep, so it's just like we sit at balcon in a concert hall. At first I'm a bit confuse when people said that W1000X has forward midrange, because I always feel backward, there's an air space / distance in the midrange that can make the ambience got captured better.

Then I just read what ATH wrote in W1000X's box, and oh yeah, I got it. (They wrote about that balcony presentation)

has anyone tried the purrin mod or the 5005 mod on these?

I listen to EDM, dubstep, and a lot of classical music and I wonder if I should mod them before buying dynamat and blu-tack.

I'd assume the bass gets tighter with the dynamat, but wondering if it changes the EQ curve. Detailed explanations welcome.

I don't own these cans yet btw. These will be my next purchase after hearing a lot of good stuff about them.

they've got a really tight and fast bass without any mods :)

they are genuine leather on w3000anv
w1000x has vinyl earpads

to be honest - i've never had any troubles with any of those - could easily listen for 4-5 hours.

I applied the purrin mod on my pair of W1000X using blu tak (reusable adhesive putty, available on amazon) and it helps control the boominess of the bass, especially for drums.  I'm not sure how it measures, but it made my pair better equipped to deal with some of the faster pace rock music I listen to without bass lightly echoing and muddling up.
