ATH-W1000X Thread!

Just got mine and already I adore them... I vastly prefer them to my old AD2000s.  Bought from PriceJapan and shipped EMS which could not have been much faster given the laws of physics - I ordered late Friday night, they were delivered in San Jose Monday...  It was in and out of customs on Sunday so DHL would have been pointless...

Mine arrived today from Price Japan...five days EMS, next to nothing in duty charges.  Only had a brief moment with them as I had to go to work.  Entirely different character from my W1000s.  Wasn't ready for all that bass.  Will report back when I've spent some time with them.  Glad I didn't opt for DHL.

I've also been listen to the HD650 for a while before the W1000X's. The mids sounded very unnatural at first, but you do get used to it fairly quickly.

Which one do you like more-HD650 or w1000x?

As with the W1000 and the HD650, I like them both but for different reasons, they both present music quite differently. The HD650 is more mellow and laid back, the W1000X is the opposite; Aggressive, brighter and exciting.

Jury is still out between the W1000 and the W1000X, as I need more time with the latter.

All I can say is that W1000X seems to adds more of everything, soundstage, bass, clarity, separation etc. It's a kind of double edge sword as it brings your attention to weaknesses in the recording themselves. The W1000 and the W1000X seem to be on par in terms of detail, but the W1000X presents them more 'in-your-face'.

For example I was listening to A Fine Frenzy's "One Cell In the Sea" and noticed new things like chair creeks, something falling from the piano, and the singer getting too close to the mike and hitting it with their lips that I never noticed before. Switching back to the W1000 I notice they were still there but due to the more laid back presentation, they more in the background. This more aggressive presentation also makes it a little more fatiguing compared to the old W1000.

What is it that you 'vastly prefer' over your AD2000s?  Anyone compared these two headphones?

Although I don't have them around anymore, as I recall the AD2000s had a similar sound, less bass impact, someone odd mids, and were much less comfortable (at least on my head).  I also think the w1000x is a much nicer looking headphone.

Have anyone dealed w/ musicaacoustics? Are they reliable? I'm buying a W1000X from them.

Thanks!

Just bought from Musica Acoustics for 525 USD which is a tad bit cheaper than Price Japan by 50 dollars or so. We'll see what kind of service they provide, and I'll post impressions vs. the AD2000 when I get them. That is of course if they don't aren't DOA.

I am somewhat disappointed to see - at least based on the number of posts on the ATH-W1000X, that more Head-Fiers haven't bought them.  I expect this is partly due to the fact that they must currently be ordered from Japan, (as far as I know) i.e. with no trial/return period.  They are about the same price as a recabled HD650, for example, and while the 650s are very good - the ATHW1000X IMO brings you into the music so much more.  Like any headphone of course, they won't suit everyone's taste, but I believe if more people tried them they would be a big seller in their price range.

I am pretty sure they'd be a lot more popular if they could be ordered from the usual outlets in North America and the EU.
