i tried the beats studio and i really like them but theyre 300. How do the AT m50 compare to them they are less than a third the price of the beats. im currently using skullcandy fmj earbuds, how much better sound would i be getting with the AT m50's?

I have no idea about the quality of the AT M50 (I do love Audio Technica, though), but I can tell you that just about anything would be better then either Beats or Skullcandy. Anything.

Assuming that you like bass, the M50s seem to be the better choice according to this chart.
For 300 the Beats simply aren't worth it.
Also, noise cancellation is silly.

To the OP, When I tried the beats, it seemed to be that it should be around a 100 dollar headphone, and not a 300 dollar headphone or what ever its price. I have never heard the ATH-m50, but I bet they would be more similar in sound quality than different considering the ATH-m50's price point. The difference is that the ATH-m50 is priced about 150-200 dollars cheaper(am I right?). There are some serious advantages to the Beats though, but those aren't necessarily sound quality advantages.

I own the M50's, Get them. Thats really all that needs to be said. After a good burn in period, you'll be happy with your purchase.

for home use only, the coiled can help prevent the wire from tangling
