I have a Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi HD, and it is the USB sound card not the PCI-E, but I have heard amazing things about the essence, so I am wondering which is better?

From what i have read here STX is superb product, and should be an upgrade over X-Fi HD. Only thing kept me from getting it instead ZxR is DolbyHeadphone, don't know why, maybe i became a fanboy but believed creative will sound better in games, but for music STX even better out of the box.

The Titanium HD has better surround effects, such as EAX, on the card.

However the amp section on the STX is superior.

I have the Titanium HD myself but would say that EAX effect are largely becoming irrelevant these days since so much of that is done in software and handled by the cpu instead.

If you have hard to drive headphones I would agree that the STX would be an upgrade, but if they're not hard to drive the Titanium HD is already good enough.
