also the trittons have 50 mm drivers/speakers while the Astros have 40 mm drivers/speakers. I know theorectically the trittons should sound better. Am I right on that one?

No, some 70 mm drivers lose to 40/50 mm drivers.  It depends on the implementation.

The Q701 is better for gaming but it requires a good amp and source.
 
The HD598 is still really good for gaming and does not require as much power as the Q701.
 
I'd get the HD598 simply because it is cheaper.
 
If you are asking which of the headsets in the original post you should get, it should be neither.  They are both overpriced with mediocre sound quality and average mics.
