Astell & Kern SR25: The next A&norma player

What is the purpose of having a full android like the sonys if you have to turn everything off to get some decent battery time? It is better to have limited android functionality with everything working and long battery time.
I'm with you for the above as I came from the Sony NW-A105 player. As mentioned, aside from playback from the Sony Music app that can juice up to 20hours or more easily, using other Android music apps is a battery killer.
Just finished with battery test. 18 hours until the DAP shut down via balanced output and at 60 volume steps. 21 hours as advertised is legit should this is from unbalanced port.

And just from this factor alone, I am impressed along with the simple/closed OS since it's mainly for music, and am more impressed with the SQ.

New Li-ion batteries takes a few charge cycles to reach it's full potential. I won't be surprised if your 18-hour balanced-out test edges towards 21-hour after a few more charge cycles. Not bad for something the size of a music cassette!

incompatible by design or totally dropped roon support for current and future A&K lineup? the last update from you just covid19 halted the development progress, not as negative as not Roon Compatible, if yes, I will return my SR25 bought today.
@JasonNYC - ROON Support is something I'd very much be interested in as well.
What is the status on that?

Thanks!

Thanks for the information. Not really a technical guy so am glad I learn something. Battery 'burn in'!

Not significant enough to notice in daily use. But in testing, it could be a few percent improvement from first cycle to few cycles later.

Sorry, but does anyone know whether the battery in SR25 can be replaced? My assumption is this thing is basically a highly-specialised Android phone, so it should be possible.

@JasonNYC, appreciate if you could comment, thanks.
Not user replaceable, but we do offer battery replacement service for a small fee.

As mentioned previously, development is on hold indefinitely with no ETA at the moment on when it might be available.

Hello @JasonNYC

Appreciate if you can assists to confirm a silly question. Understood the player does unfold fully MQA tracks from the pre-installed Tidal app (assume it is since there's bit rate shown).
Is the same process applicable to offline tracks from the APK Tidal app?

Thanks to confirm.
Hello @JasonNYC

Would like to check with you whether you have any updates for the above.

Many thanks again for your kind confirmation!

Hi anyone know the LDAC bit rates supported on the SR25 ? Adaptive, 330,66o or 990 kbps, Naturally I want to switch to 990kbps but I dont know how ?
Confirmed with the dev team last night, SR25 supports adaptive LDAC which will automatically select between 330/660/990 depending on what the headphone/IEM supports and connection strength.

Really appreciate your contact with the community @JasonNYC !

The SR25 is now built on Android 9 as per AK specs pages.
Could you please share any info whether the new base will come as an update for other players as well my interest in especially in the SP1000M?

Thanks!

Is this a good entry level dap? I’ve just entered the hobby with a new set of Andro 2020s and am looking for a DAP.

I was originally looking at the ZX507 but I see that bit perfect MQA streaming isn’t fully supported yet. Not to mention the battery life compared to what I’ve heard of the SR25.

TIDAL is my main streaming service and is what I’d mostly be using.
