For microSD card, we recommend FAT32 for best results. You can format microSD cards as FAT32 from the player itself by going to Settings -> System information -> Erase SD card.

For the external drive, exFAT should be fine. My 1TB portable drive is formatted as NTFS and I haven't had any issues with any of the players recognizing it.

I tried to erase my sd card from SR25, but that option just turned greay and can't do anything. I'm using Mac, so please help to advice which format on Mac I should use it to format the card.

Thanks.

Re-listening to Atomic Blonde soundtrack album again on Tidal (non-MQA). An already well-engineered album just got more enjoyable to my ears. The texture & energy of the sounds has gone up to another level. It's like having a my own sound engineer living inside this player, without me having to do anything (EQ=flat). I must go re-watch the movie again and listen via this player.

Hi All!

Looking to replace my Sony WM1A with something that can stream. Until now I held back mainly because of the battery life but the SR25 looks solid in this regard.

Now, has anyone had both and can share a comparison between the two?

Greatly appreciated, thanks!

Jason, will the open app support the Shure AONIC 50 app? I didn't see it on supported apps. haven't had the time to look fully yet.

I went from the WM1A to the ZX-507 but couldn't handle the battery difference. Picked the SR25 up after release and I'm amazed at the battery life for a well made streaming capable DAP.

Thanks! I also had the ZX-507 and had to return it - EU version volume cap was abysmal. And battery life with all optimisations was quite bad as well.

How does it sound to you compared to the WM1A?

I had ZX300 and WM1A, and then WM1Z (which I ended up with).
There are fewer differences between them than between any of them and the SR25.
The SR25 has a normal low bass, but the mid bass is less than that of Sony, as a result the sound is more subtle, that is, it lacks a “body”. At the same time, the middle is more emphasized, as a result of something like folk and jazz it sounds very beautiful, but rock / pop / metal is more interesting to listen to on Sony, especially if these are old records of the 70-90s.

but the player, of course, is beautiful:

Do you think the designer was inspired by Lovecraft :

"and Johansen swears he was swallowed up by an angle of masonry which shouldn’t have been there; an angle which was acute, but behaved as if it were obtuse".

Thanks for the details... I might like the Sony better according to this :) I really do like how the 1A sounds, but the grass is always greener...
Nice photo! Are those inEars?

Is the interface more fluid than let's say the SP1000M (which I had for testing at some point)? Compared to the Sony WM series all previous AK players felt sluggish.

Yes it's PP8

Currently, the SR25 interface lags in comparison with WM1Z, especially in external applications (Tidal, Spotify)

And also SR25 heats up more than WM1Z, and in this mode, the battery begins to lose charge faster

Planning on picking up an SR25 this Friday, one last question in my mind is it possible to replace the battery in future?

Great to read all the positive reports on batter life per charge cycle, but it will degrade eventually.

thanks!

Sorry, but does anyone know whether the battery in SR25 can be replaced? My assumption is this thing is basically a highly-specialised Android phone, so it should be possible.

@JasonNYC, appreciate if you could comment, thanks.

Hi all,
many thanks to everybody for all the usefull info, particularly to Jason.
i have some questions and please excuse my ignorance, I am quite new to this world. Probably some are obvious, I do not know:
1- how do you decide which voltage to use for line out with different amps?
2- what would be better quality playing files from the memory card or from pc in dac function? Or should it be the same quality?
3- what would be the right cable for the otg external hard disk funcion? I have tried with a cheap connection and does not work. The hasd disk moves but it is not recognished. I have tried with different external hard disks and usb keys and i cannot make it work, so I guess it is the connection.
Many thanks in advance for any input to these questions.
i continue to dig the player. It is truly a high quality product in all aspects: sound, interface, functions, and last but not least battery. What is the purpose of having a full android like the sonys if you have to turn everything off to get some decent battery time? It is better to have limited android functionality with everything working and long battery time.
