Astell & Kern SE100: A&futura Impressions - Reviews

Everyone, I finally did it. I purchased the SE100! I'm glad I did it! I am coming from Fiio X7ii and its UI was leaving so much to be desired. Let's see what this experience is going to be like.

Thank you for everyone to make this decision easy for me! This is a great community and I can not wait to be involved in the conversation!

At this point I am using roon through my computer with IFI IDSD nano black and I am using Aeon Flow Closed as cans.

I am excited about the Roon integration. Do we know when that's going to happen?

Congratulations! I bought the SE100 and loved it so much I exchanged it for the 1000M. It is a great player, enjoy!

Just curious, do you find the 1000m sounds better? I mean, i know it is supposed to, but is it noticeably better sound?
Yes, it does. It is rather subtle, in a way. It is a different sound signature...smoother, warmer, more detailed, richer. It.doesnt beat you over the head, the SE100 is a great sound ding DAP, but if you are obsessive about these things, then yes, it is better. But it's not, "OMG!" better. Know what I mean? My suspicion is that on higher end IEMs the sound will hold up much better with the 1000m and the sound of the se100 would start to.show it's cracks, but on mid tier IEMs or cans, the difference will be less noticable.

Is the difference between SR15 and SE100 more noticable than between SE100 and SPKM?
I'd upgrade from SR15 to SE100 as I feel SR15 doesn't have too much plus compared to the LG V30.

Yes, absolutely! I had the sr-15 before i left it in a bar, the jump from the 15 to the 100 is big, imo.

Oh, geez, you’re right. I had completely overlooked that in the specs as the SR15 and SP1000 have dual DACs as do competing players like the R6. I had just assumed balanced output would require a dual DAC.
The SE100 has a single 8-channel DAC. 4 channels are dedicated to the right and 4 to the left.

Cool, thanks for your feedback!
I'm kind of a Sabre fan, had stuff mainly equipped with ESS DAC's, so I hope the SE100 won't be a disappointment regarding my expectations. :) I have no issues at all with the SR15, it is a cool sounding player, just seems like I have already stepped over the Norma level... want more. :D
