I have tried two 256GB SD cards and two 128GB mSD cards when I demoed the Kann. They were all formatted to Exfat by other DAPs in my collection and they worked with no issue at all.

That's the golden rule for me. If a new DAP can't play my existing Exfat cards, next ...

Hi All, i would like to share my experiences on the format issue. If you want trouble free operation down the line (No pop ups informing you of incomatible cards, very long boot up times, etc) then please DO NOT format your cards in the KANN. The Kann formats in exfat which strangely the KANN itself has trouble with. Maybe not right away, but as with me it gave error messages two weeks later.
Fomat the cards in fat32 using a fat32 formatter. I use

Neve had any boot up difficulties or false card error pop ups afterwards.

Based on what you said so far A&K has not commented on the same so far as to not to format the card in Kann. This would hit them bad. I have though not had any issues with formatting the card in the Kann. I followed a different method all together.
Firstly I always format all my SD & SDC cards on my MAC using terminal command in FAT32.
Secondly, I insert the cards in Kann and give command of erase again irrespective of what format the Kann does.
Thereafter I copied my backed up files on my card inset in the Kann and it does take few more minutues for the library to get scanned initially. Once it is buffered shutting off the Kann & putting it on loads my files in 40-45 secs without issues.

For those using Mac please follow my post earlier as to how to format the card in FAT32 using Terminal command. It is perfect and can format any higher capacity card.

My KANN erases to FAT32. Brand new 256gb SD card. Checked it out of the package to verify it was formatted to EXFAT. Put it in the KANN and erased all data. Took it out and checked it. Verified it was now formatted to FAT32.

You got it right.

I think you'll enjoy it. It's become my go-to device, at the expense of my hi-fi rig. They need to change the messaging about the removal. I heard its planned for a coming firmware upgrade.

Hi guys,
Everything has been working great with the cards after formatting to FAT32 in my Mac using disk utility and *then* erasing in the KANN. Instant mount for both cards and no issues so far!

I have a new issue however- whenever I start up a shuffle using "songs" mode, the forward button pulls up a message that says "Adding song to now playing playlist" and won't let me skip to the next track. This is generally resolved by playing the first track all the way through- the button then works again as it should.

Wondering if anyone has seen this before. I tried resetting to default settings, but it did not resolve the issue.

Thanks!

When I use the initialize media scan and it says it may take a long time, how long is a long time?I don't see anything to indicate that the scan is taking place or when it is finished.
It all depends upon how large is your song collection. If you are using both card slots and the built in kann storage it can longer. Yes it will not show the scan is in progress.

It could take upwards of 15 - 20 minutes depending on how full, usually does not take longer than 5 or 6 minutes. While scanning you will see "scanning media" in the notification bar and an icon that looks like a circle or an eye.

If you have playlists and uncheck the box to clear playlists, those will index afterwards, but not show they are scanning. Depending on the number of playlists, it should only take 2 -3 minutes.
