Good to see this thread getting back to reason about the chassis wonders in sound enhancement :)

It does make a very big difference. You will have to actually hear it to believe it. I am looking forward to auditioning the black version.

Seriously...
Why is it so difficult to admit that they tweaked the sound via hardware/software, and that this has nothing to do with the chassis ?
It's not a shame, and the extra-cost is the chassis cost, since manufacturing copper is expensive after all.

I can't wait for the advertisement for the black version: "we painted the chassis black with a special paint which reduces noise and makes you gain 20% IQ instantly".

New chassis and new sound tweaking sure sounds less glamorous.

I will be alot more cautious about what AK say in the future.  First, they say that copper chassis is the only difference.  Second, they say  AK380Cu only produced 500 units...

Which is why you should always have a listen yourself and decide for yourself: trust your own ears. Either way.

Let's start counting the owners of the AK380Cu,and i bet they are more then 500 out there :disappointed::smiley:

Interesting point, MusicDay. I'll assume that this is merely conjecture on your part?

I have another theory for why Cu sound better than standaard 380. Mai be it has Notting to do with the Copper casting but... They use better tolerence components for the electronic ( example 1% tolerence resistances instead of 5% in the standaard 380). So the components match better.

What do you think ?

Interesting theory, Bmichels. More fundamental is whether one can discern the sonic differences. If you can, then you can consider getting the Cu. if you can't, then you don't have that dilemma of whether to get the Cu: the stock AK380 will suffice for you.

But the basic premise which goes to the root: have a listen to both and see what your ears tell you. No substitute for that. :)

I have optical out on AK380 with DSD64 and 128, but not with 256. Otherwise DSD256 files play well. Firmware is 1.24. Anyone having same problem ?

I don't think the AK380 supports DoP, or your DAC might not support PCM at 256.

Who knows, but it seems that way...
