Astell&Kern A&ultima SP3000

Today I bought the Empire Odin. I was also thinking about buying the Evo. But......after reading the comments over here regarding the SP3000, I decided to buy the Odin. The bigger shape of the Evo made me hesitate. And also the lack of openness compared to Odin. Which I could buy for a good price. (2250 euros) I am waiting for my SP3000, which I will receive soon. Are there users over here who both own the SP3000 and the Odin? And what are your experiences?

Yes, startup time with my 532GB sd card is about 1:45min from drop start button to shows the artwork of the last playing album. this is a very long time - JasonNYC can you say something about a planning firmware update to faster the startup time?
When mine arrives I will be loading a 1tb full with PGGB 16fs wav files. I may have to go for lunch while it loads. lol 😂

Yes I do. You will love the combination. Experiment with different tips on the Odin though.
I am thoroughly enjoying the two together more so than with my Utopias.

I work full-time in audio for over 24 years, and I did a lot of research. I did thousands of tests with many products and cables. But regarding portable DAP and new IEMs, I do not have a lot of experience. But regarding music, I have a lot of experience as well. Due to my addiction to music, I started to work full-time in audio in 1998. Now I own over 35000 euros in music which I paid for. The differences between playing a song at the same bit rate between Qobus (which is by far the best for streaming) and the song played on my modified Lumin L1 music server together with my modified Lumin X1 are huge. It is a lot more dynamic and has a lot more resolution. The biggest difference that I find is regarding the layering (harmonics) of sound because it has a lot more details to reveal. Each song is much more emotional and intense. My question is now: "What are the differences when you play a song at the same bit rate between Qobus, Roon and the song played directly from the SP-3000?".

Start up time for the SP3K today was 55 seconds. I’m not certain how I feel about that.

Start up time for me today was one and a half hours and three cups of coffee.

What also surprises me is that there are no firmware update....there was as far as I remember always immediately with the release
Strangely enough you can't find a manual online either

Have not responded in the thread yet about the slow boot times as I am still waiting for more info from the dev team and we don't have an SP3000 in the US offices at the moment. I assume, and this is by no means official, that like any other time AK has released a new player UI and new version of Android OS on a player (SP3000 uses Android 11), priority is given to optimizing browsing and playback and then boot times are optimized via firmware update a few weeks after release.

Also, something else to take into account, whenever an AK player is loaded with a decent amount of music or there is a big change in adding/removing music, the player does a deep scan in the background over 5 - 10 retstarts, which tends to slow the player down. Once suggestion is to do a manual media scan to force a complete scan and index one time. This will prevent the player from doing a deep scan on multiple start-ups. Again, don't have a SP3000 here at the moment, so cannot confirm that a manual scan would indeed speed up the initial boot.

Regarding Roon Arc, no update yet. I promise as soon as I do have an update, it will be posted.
