Astell&Kern A&ultima SP3000

Currently listening to favourite albums I know well. Leonard Cohen, Lou Reed, John Hiatt and Handsome Family to start. Conclusion is that the SP3000 improves on the SP2000, certainly via my Odins. I think the superb sound stage and depth of the music made the transfer from the excellent SP2000 worth it.
I accept it’s a lot of money though and apparently my advanced Xmas present not just for 2022 but 2023 as well.

I gotta admit: as someone who has a lifetime membership to Roon, this is huge. I don’t think vendors realize for a certain segment (admittedly small), this is a strongly desired use case to have full Roon utilization without down sampling outside of the home. That alone could tip me over the line to pull the trigger on the SP3000.
+1

Is the soundstage the biggest improvement from the SP2000? Do you notice additional detail and better seperation?

I think soundstage and separation go hand in hand. Perhaps I would add then that imaging is also better with the SP3000.

I have noticed with Amazon hd app seems to limit quality to 24/48 and not 24/192. Is this an android problem.

On my 2 A&K DAPS, if you play a 24/192 track from the default player before starting Amazon Music, it will then default to the higher rate. Not sure if this works on the SP3000, though.

Seems like a mixed bag in terms of interest in silver vs black based on the market in question.

Yes I remember that but what a faff. Was hoping SP3000 would be better than that. Haven’t tried on SP3000 because I don’t like work arounds.
It defaults to SD which I changed to highest quality but won’t go higher than 24/48.

That doesn’t seem to work either.
I can’t say I think the new GUI is better than the old.
As I tend to play from folders there is a lot of superfluous info. Maybe thats partly even after a long loading procedure it takes a while to see the internal storage and external under folder view.
I’m sure I will get used to it.
My Amazon sub finishes in Jan 23 and I wasn’t going to renew anyway following the price rise and restrictions.
