Personally, not into how the kpop industry has turned into, but there is no denying the effort it takes to be a performer. Lots of hard work, continual practices, rehearsals. Being an 'idol' is very tough. A lot of them start out from a very young age in training camps, and takes years of practice to become a performer.
I think BoA is a prime example of this. I found this documentary very interesting, and reveals how much effort and motivation it takes. She's probably one of the earliest one that was 'trainee' from a young age that the whole industry is now modeling after. Based on this video, it's not just talent potential, but it's apparent that it's significant amount of effort involved of the performer, their mindset, etc..
